I WONDER
 "May their dreams of the past be the reality of our future." Those dreams will in part come to life this year at Special Olympics New Mexico's State Summer Games. As the theme we have chosen suggests, we will be "Honoring Our Past." Nearly 42 years ago a hand full of New Mexicans began laying the ground work, so that our state's children and adults challenged with intellectual disabilities could be given the chance to participate in Special Olympics. SONM partners with the Society for Human Resources Management to raise awareness to local business professionals
By Erin Gallegos  On March 26 - 27, Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM) partnered with the Society for Human Resource Management - New Mexico (SHRM-NM) for their annual state conference at the Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque. On Monday, March 26, SONM Athlete Tim Harris and Executive Director Randy Mascorella gave an inspirational presentation to a room of more than 300 attendees about the impact the Special Olympics movement has had on their individual lives and the growing Special Olympics community. SONM Athletes Marla Gavurnik, Phil With, and Ken Patton also attended as award presenters to the conference's additional presenters over the two days. Throughout the conference, the athletes also greeted hundreds of conference attendees at the Special Olympics information booth. MORE>> |
The 2012 State Summer Games: Honoring Our Past
Save the date for our 2012 State Summer Games presented by Mountain States Insurance : Honoring Our Past on May 18 - 20 in Albuquerque. This year's Summer Games, we're honoring the vision of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, along with our own local pioneers, who in 1970 paved the way for thousands of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families to share in the joy of sport. The 7-Eleven promotion for Special Olympics is back!
Wanting some gas and a slurpee? Make your way to these 7-Eleven locations and see  how your frosty cravings can also make you a fan of Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM). During the entire month of April, 7-Eleven will be selling SONM / Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) icons to purchase for $1 at all 23 Albuquerque and Rio Rancho locations. Last year, 7-Eleven helped raise $11,654 for SONM's athletes and sports programs.
So hurry! Find the location nearest you by clicking HERE and make your way over to any 7-Eleven and purchase a SONM LETR icon. And don't forget your gas and drink.

Four Corners LETR officers present Chili's Tip-A-Cop on April 27th & 28th
On April 27th & 28th members of the Four Corners Law Enforcement Torch Run are hosting a Chili's Tip-A-Cop to raise funds and awareness for the local Special Olympics programs.
From 11am - 9pm, dozens of LETR officers will exchange guns for aprons to bus tables and assist Chili's staff. The event is located at the Chili's restaurant on 4915 E. Main St. in Farmington.
