Thoughts From Randy Two Words
This week there’s been two words that have lived in my head and my heart, and I decided to express those words out loud in this final blog of 2011. You may be thinking “Merry Christmas” – and as much as I LOVE and treasure this time of year and hope that each one of you fully experience the wonder of this season – those aren’t my two words. Special Olympics is a movement of unseen acts of kindness. Not only in New Mexico but all over the world, people are giving gifts of time and love on a daily basis that go unseen and unnoticed. No plaques – no letters of commendation – no pats on the back. These kind deeds are intentional, and they are most often simple, humbling, and beautiful.

Rio Rancho Rockets burst into city's
2011 Winterfest Parade
On Saturday, December 10, dozens of Special Olympics Rio Rancho (SORR) athletes participated in the City of Vision’s 30th anniversary Winterfest Parade with approximately 50 other local groups. Nearly 30 athletes and families participated in the parade, which took place at Rio Rancho’s City Center. Throughout the event, SORR athletes carried a Special Olympics banner and glow sticks, and wore seasonal hats to the event. "It was awesome and amazing to see luminarias, all the floats go by including several balloons glowing in the dark, the lighting of the Christmas tree, and our athletes singing songs as we walked,” said Rio Rancho Rockets local program coordinator Nutan Patel, “We sure had a blast in the cold.” This year’s parade was an enjoyable experience for the Rio Rancho Rockets and they hope to participate in next year’s parade as well.
