Get into the spirit of the Holidays!!! South Regional Bowling Strikes a Win
On November 19, 2011 150 bowlers from the South Region competed at Ten Pin Alley in Las Cruces, NM. "It is so much fun to have everyone come together for a great event" said Area 3 Director Ronda Norfleet. It was especially great to have so many volunteers at the event, including Walgreens, Students and Athletes from NMSU, White Sands Federal Credit Union, and Wells Fargo. The Onate High School Football Team and Cheerleading squad were high spirited as they cheered "we are proud of you, I said we are proud of you" for each athlete as they received their award. Executive Director Randy Mascorella said, "having the football players and cheerleaders making each athlete feel proud of their accomplishment was such a wonderful addition, and we hope they come back next year."
Philanthropy project leads to first
Special Olympics New Mexico cheerleading squad in twenty years
Last Monday, a small group of Special Olympics Manzano athletes participated in a different kind of practice than the local program normally runs. Instead of working on relays, three-pointers, or slap shots these eager and excited athletes worked on routines, stunts and dance. Earlier this year, Special Olympics Manzano participated in a philanthropy project that introduced the first Special Olympics cheerleading squad in New Mexico in twenty years. Currently, there are ten Special Olympics athletes on the squad: Alexis, Jordan, Tommy, Taylor, Kayla, Angel, Deborah, Deanna, Gia, and Jade. Jaimee Parea and Amie Sims, two UNM students, started the Special Olympics cheerleading squad philanthropy project and decided to continue with the squad after the project ended. Athlete Profile
