Thoughts From Randy Meant To Be Shared
Last Sunday Special Olympics New Mexico held its statewide invitational basketball competition. Six courts – forty-two games – five hours. Here are four comments I overheard that do a pretty good job of describing our day. 1) “Hey dude, what’s goin’ on’?” — ”Good. I’ve been practicing.” 2) “Man that was a GREAT game!” — “Ya, I know. Did we win?” 3) “Hey Mom – HE DID IT! Peter finally made a basket!” 4) “This is making all the difference in his life. He has a whole family of friends now.” I love Special Olympics competitions. They are usually my very best days.
2011 Basketball Tournament Recap
The 2011 SONM Basketball Tournament was a big success. Held on October 16, 2011 at Johnson Gym over 150 athletes competed in this event. We were all excited to see 3 on 3 competitions, skills events, All 3 levels of basketball play as well as the Rio Rancho Rockets show us how a true Team Skills competition should be done. This was an exciting day filled with great basketball competition and good times had by all.
Posole Ole Fun Walk
We are looking for you to participate in the 2011 Posole Ole Fun Walk. This is a great fundraising opportunity for our delegations. For registered delegations who participate you will receive 50% of the funds you raise. We also encourage individuals, families and community service organizations to join us in raising money to continue supporting Special Olympics New Mexico. Through the funds raised, we are able to continue providing a quality sport experience to athletes with a disability. Join us on December 3, 2011 at the Balloon Fiesta Museum at 8:00am to begin the Fun Walk. Afterwards enjoy food, drinks, prizes, Santa Clause and of course Posole.
