Thoughts from Randy

I promise

For the past fifteen years at every Special Olympics Opening Ceremony, I’ve had the chance to stand next to numerous volunteers who were asked to step to the microphone and recite the Special Olympics Volunteer Oath.  If my memory is correct, Tony Danza wrote this Oath and recited it at the Opening Ceremonies of the 1995 Special Olympics World Games in Connecticut.  As I recall he was pretty emotional, and since then I have witnessed very few who have been able to get through saying it without having to pause, clear their throat, or wipe a tear.

“I promise to give of the time in my life so that Special Olympics athletes can have the time of their lives.  I promise to support Special Olympics, not just as an expression of charity, but as a form of respect for my fellow human beings.  I promise to spread the word of volunteerism because in giving, I receive so much more in return.”

Volunteer Spotlight

Do you know a volunteer who has made the promise.  Send in a story and a picture to Jena Richardson at jenarichardson@sonm.org. We are excited to share all the wonderful things SONM is about. Without volunteers our athletes would not get the respect and support they deserve. Thank you to everyone who has made the promise, now is your time to shine in the spotlight.

Golf Classic Dinner and Sports Auction has something for everyone!

[Albuquerque, NM] - It is an evening filled with sports, entertainment and inspiration. It promises good food, good people, and good fun. It’s our Golf Classic Dinner and Sports Auction, and now it has a new look.

On Saturday, July 16th the traditional and cultural setting of Albuquerque Hotel in Old Town will play host to our 2011 Golf Classic Dinner and Sports Auction presented by The Payroll Company.  The Golf Classic tournament play will take place separately on Monday, July 18th at Paa-Ko Ridge Golf Course.

“Hotel Albuquerque offers our supporters another quality dinner and auction venue that adds a large part of Albuquerque tradition and culture,” says SONM Director of Development Christine Sandoval. “It’s a beautiful atmosphere with a lot of New Mexico charm.”

One of the major highlights of the night will certainly be the Live and Silent Auction, which will feature items ranging from an authentic Dallas Mavericks Dirk Nowitzki autographed jersey to Mark Pardo Salon & Spa Gift Certificates.

The Sports Auction and Dinner includes a live and silent auction, cash bar, live music and personal photograph opportunities provided by Kim Jew Photography.

Proceeds from our 2011 Golf Classic and Dinner / Sports Auction will help cover expenses for sports equipment and year-round state competitions for over 2,600 SONM athletes.  Click HERE for more information or to register today!
