Thoughts from Randy-Blog
Voluntold

The past two
weeks hundreds
of law
enforcement
officers
have been
running the
Special
Olympics
torch across
New Mexico.
I know that
for a fact
because I
have
received
numerous
phone calls,
emails, and
Facebook
posts – all
from people
who have
seen them
running through Hobbs,
Shiprock,
Tularosa,
Lordsburg,
etc.
The Law
Enforcement
Torch Run
raises a lot
of money and
generates
tremendous
awareness
for Special
Olympics
world-wide. Since
its
beginning
twenty-five
years ago
our Torch
Run in New
Mexico has
raised over
$2.5 million
dollars.
That alone
makes for a
great story,
but the
really
great story
lies in the
officers
themselves.
MORE
Be the one to say, "I saved 3 lives"

It is no secret many of our
Special Olympic athletes and families have benefited from the
donation of someone else's blood. Many of our athletes are here
today because of the generosity of others.
Special
Olympics and United Blood Services are pairing up at the 2011
State Summer Games to not only change lives - but save them. A
minimum of one dontation can in effect save three lives. We are
asking for your help.
On
Friday at the UNM Track from 12:30 p.m - 4:30 p.m and on
Saturday from 10:00am -
2:00p p.m. we need 50
people to pay it forward and donate blood

SONM at USA Gymnastics

On May 7, 2011 Rebecca
Amador, Mackenzie Amundson and Jeannie Garriss were participants in
the first ever USA Gymnastics and Special Olympics Championships.
Together with their coach Molly Sorce they traveled to Marietta, GA
to compete in a venue like non other. Coach Molly Sorce said her
favorite part of the trip was watching these three incredible women
compete at a USA Gymnastics event, and to watch these women not only
feel comfortable but succeed in an environment that was unfamiliar.
All three athletes
competed in the Rhythmic Ribbon, Rhythmic Hoop, Rhythmic Clubs,
Rhythmic Ball, and All Around Rhythmic. Rebecca took home, 2nd
place ribbon, 3rd place hoop, clubs and all around, and 4th
place ball. Mackenzie took home 2nd place ribbon and
hoop, 4th place clubs and all around, 5th
place ball. Jeannie took home a 4th place ribbon, 3rd
place hoop, 6th place clubs, 1st place ball
and 6th place all around. We at SONM are so proud of
these women and their achievement and recognition through USA
Gymnastics, and a big thanks to Molly Sorce for being a dedicated
coach and providing an unbelievable opportunity for our athletes.
CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS!!!
