Thoughts from Randy-Blog
Clean

There are some
opinions that matter more to me than
others, but one that holds much weight
is the opinion given by our auditors.
“In our opinion, the financial
statements referred to above present
fairly, in all material respects, the
financial position of Special Olympics
New Mexico, Inc. as of December 31, 2010
and 2009, and the changes in its net
assets and its cash flows for the years
then ended in conformity with accounting
principles generally accepted in the
United States of America.” Broderick &
Company, LLC Those words are music to
my ears and essentially mean that our
organization’s financial condition,
position, and operations were fairly
presented in our financial
statements. In short, it’s
called receiving a “clean opinion.”
Each year as the
auditors give their report to our Board
of Directors, I am especially interested
in the report on the Statement of
Functional Expenses – how much our
organization spends on Program Services
– Management and General –
and Fundraising. It was reported
that in 2010, $.78 of every dollar was
spent on Program, $.08 of every dollar
went to Management and General, and $.14
of every dollar was spent on
Fundraising. A donor and friend shared
this perspective with me - “As one
who contributes to Special Olympics New
Mexico, I want to know how much
money your spending on staff salaries,
how much you are paying for rent, and is
the money you are spending on
fundraising well-spent?”

Fill the Field

We are in
need of volunteers to "Fill the Field" for the 2011 State Summer
Games Opening Ceremonies Friday, May 20th 6:30 - 8:30pm, at UNM
Track & Field.
Come support
our Law Enforcement Officers as they carry the "Flame of Hope" for
Special Olympic Athletes.

Cops on
Doughnut Shops

Krispy Kream and LETR join
together to bring the 2011 Cops On Top fundraiser benefiting
Special Olympics New Mexico. Beginning Friday April 29th at 6pm
through Sunday May 1st till 12pm find LETR Officers on top of Krispy
Kreme. To see them, head over to the Westside Cottonwood Doughnut
Factory for your morning coffee and a fresh made world famous
glazed doughnut (it’s worth the drive). Set a personal promise
to yourself and Special Olympics, for every doughnut you purchase,
dough-nate a dollar to Special Olympics New Mexico. Don’t forget to
bring some doughnuts to the office and make everyone's day dough-lightful.
We are looking
for athletes to be at the store to
interact with the public for
donations and to support the Law
Enforcement Officers during the
following hours:
- Friday,
April 29 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
-
Saturday, April 30 from 9:00 AM
to 4:00 PM
- Sunday,
May 1 from 9:00 AM to noon.
