Attention SONM families! We want your help to come up with a new name for our monthly newsletter. Please email us name suggestions along with your first and last name and what city you live in to sonm@sonm.org. The winner will receive a prize plus their name and photo listed in the following monthly issue.

Be a fan of Special Olympics New Mexico by ordering an All American Slam during your next visit to Denny's. Denny's restaurants are continuing to raise support for Special Olympics New Mexico athletes at home and around the world. When you order an All-American Slam from now through August 2011, 10-cents will be donated to Special Olympics. Proceeds will benefit Special Olympics in local communities across the U.S. and will allow us to provide greater services and programs for the 3.4 million athletes who are part of the Special Olympics movement around the world.

Over the Edge

Overcome a challenge in your life so Special Olympics athletes can overcome the challenges in theirs. Go Over the Edge for Special Olympics New Mexico and you’ll be supporting over 2,600 Special Olympics athletes who train and compete in a variety of Olympic-type sports, year-round and statewide.

Over the Edge for Special Olympics New Mexico is a 16-story rappel down the New Mexico Bank & Trust building (320 Gold SW) in downtown Albuquerque on Friday, Sept 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each individual will need to raise a minimum of $1,000 to participate. Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day

Attention SONM fans! On September 25, Special Olympics programs across the world will be joining together to celebrate Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day. 

Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s actions helped open the minds of all people to the gifts and talents of individuals with intellectual disabilities. In 1963, Eunice held several days of sport for dozens of boys and girls with intellectual disabilities in her own backyard to explore their capabilities in a variety of sports and physical activities.

We here at SONM would like to encourage you to honor this extraordinary woman's legacy by inviting friends and family to your backyard for a day of recreational sports, food and fun to reflect Eunice's impact on the world and especially the special needs population.
