Attention SONM fans and golf enthusiasts! This July, take the the
opportunity to enjoy a round of golf at the beautiful
Four Hills Country Club in
Albuquerque and raise funds for SONM athletes and families.
The 2010 Special Olympics
Golf Classic
and Sports Auction will feature Lobo Basketball Coach
Steve Alford, who since 2007 has helped
raise funds and awareness for SONM athletes year-round and
statewide.
“Steve Alford is an amazing coach," says SONM Board of Director and
athlete Ryan Hanson. "I want to say ‘thank
you’ to Coach Alford and the Lobos for supporting me and my Special
Olympics friends and helping us compete in sports.”
On Sunday, July 18 a Sports Auction and Dinner will be held at Four
Hills from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. featuring a variety of must-have
sports memorabilia and other great items. On Monday, July 19, join
special guest and UNM Coach Steve Alford to kick off a four-man
scramble and two-man best ball tournament at Four Hills Country

Third
Annual Mariposa Run raises over $14,000 for Special Olympics
On Sunday, June 6 over 400 Special Olympics New Mexico fans spent
their morning running through Rio Rancho's beautiful
Mariposa community to
raise awareness and funds for SONM's athletes and sports program.
The
3rd Annual Mariposa Run for Special Olympics--which included a
10K Run, 5K Run & Walk, and 1K Kids' Fun Walk--raised $14,300 that
will help pay for program costs such as athlete equipment, as well
as local area and state competitions.
After the event, participants were treated to an awards ceremony at
Mariposa's Community Center where a live band and an
outdoor pool kept the excitement going.

Southern NM racecar drivers raced the track for Special Olympics
[Las Cruces, NM] - On Saturday, June 19, Special Olympics
Area 3
athletes were honored during the 1st Annual Special Olympics New
Mexico benefit night at the Southern New
Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces.
Organized by local Law Enforcement Torch Run officers, the event was
aimed at raising awareness and funds for SONM's athletes and
year-round sports program.
The evening featured
plenty of exciting races from the Renegade Sprint Car Series, Rick’s
Performance Center Street Stocks, Xtreme Modifieds, and the Advanced
Towing Limited Late Models headlining the nights racing action.
For the first 750 tickets sold, $1 per ticket was donated to SONM.
After that, 50 percent of the sale of every ticket was donated as
well. The event raised a total of $1,400.
