Special message from Special Olympics Chairman Timothy Shriver regarding SO families in Haiti |
Greetings!
Please take a moment to read a special from Special Olympics Chairman Timothy Shriver on the matter regarding the devestation in Haiti. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers to our friends who have suffered so much already.
Dear Colleagues,
The devastation that has hit Haiti in recent days is almost beyond imagination. Like people all over the world, we join all the people of Haiti in prayer and sympathy at this time of unspeakable loss. Our hearts are with them as is our commitment to join them in this dark hour with any help we can provide.
For all of us in Special Olympics, this disaster is personal. For many years we have had many Special Olympics activities in Haiti that have included as many as 500 athletes.
At this time, we have been unable to establish contact with our leadership there and do not know the status of any of our athletes or families. Obviously, we are all struck with fear and pray fervently for their safety as well as the safety of thousands of others in Haiti with intellectual disabilities, their families, and fellow citizens.
Please join me in sending your thoughts, prayers, and sympathy to our Special Olympics leaders Yves Jean Baptiste, Jean Chevalier Sanon, and to all the people of Haiti. Our Special Olympics family in the Caribbean is strong and resilient and has begun to think about how we can support our Haitian colleagues in the difficult days ahead. Although Special Olympics is not equipped organizationally to help in disaster relief, I know many of you will want to support the members of our family in Haiti both now and in the future.
If you or your colleagues would like to contribute specifically to Special Olympics Haiti and to the needs of their athletes and families, I know they would be most grateful. You can send any donations to the address below. Needless to say, 100% of your donation will go directly to Haiti as soon as possible.
