Thoughts from Randy - Blog

Eye Level
There is something unique about the beginning of a new year. It
feels very similarto when I coached. With every new season there was
much to look forward to - and having not yet lost, hope was
abundant.
Entering into 2010, I find myself thinking about hope. Hope for
change in our organization that will enable us to make more of a
difference throughout New Mexico.

UNM
volleyball clinic draws dozens of SONM coaches

On January 9, two dozen SONM coaches gathered at the UNM Johnson
Center to join UNM head assistant volleyball coach Steve Hendricks,
and Lobo Junior Lisa Meeter, for a one-day volleyball clinic to give
SONM coaches skills and practice tips to take back to their local
programs and athletes.
The clinic took place during a state volleyball tournament, offering
SONM a limited opportunity to gain college-level knowledge for about
two dozen of its coaches. The clinic also granted those coaches
present certification for the next three years in Volleyball.
In 2009, Special Olympics New Mexico and the University of New
Mexico athletics department formed a partnership, which in addition
to such athlete and coaching clinics, has included statewide
outreach tours and fund raising support.
"What was great was that he really focused on coaching principles
and volleyball fundamentals, like passing and serving," said
SONM Manzano coach Chris Castillo. "I walked away actually fired up
for my next volleyball season. He was so personable, simple,
and didn't get too technical. That made a big difference."
Special Olympics New Mexico 2010 Poly Hockey season opens

The 2010 poly hockey season has arrived and SONM delegations across
New Mexico are getting players together for another year of goal
line to goal line action.
The stage is set for the 2010 State Poly Hockey Championship as SONM
returns to the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds in Roswell on
February 26 - 28. Teams, be sure to check back to SONM's
Poly
Hockey site for any news and resources.
