Thoughts from Randy - Blog
What are we missing?

True story. It is a cold wintery morning and a man with a violin
standing in the Washington DC Metro Station plays six pieces written
by Bach. This takes 45 minutes. Four minutes after he begins
playing, he receives his first dollar from a woman who throws the
money into his hat and continues to walk. For the next six minutes a
young man stops briefly to listen, along with several children who
try to stop, but are forced to move on quickly by their parents. For
45 minutes this musician plays continuously. Twenty gave money, but
continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of
$32. When he finished playing – no one noticed. Silence simply took
over.
The violinist playing that morning was Joshua Bell, one of the
greatest musicians in the world. The average cost of a ticket to see
him in concert is $100. That morning in the Metro Station, he played
one of the most intricate pieces of music ever written on a violin
valued at $3.5 million dollars.

Some 170 walkers help Posole Ole Fun Walk raise over $19,000 for
Special Olympics
By Amanda Ortiz

For nine years, the annual Posole Ole Fun Walk for Special Olympics
New Mexico has united families, friends and fans of SONM for a day
of exercise, entertainment and the edible goodness of El Pinto’s
famous posole.
On Saturday, December 5 some 170 walkers from Albuquerque and Rio
Rancho arrived at the Albuquerque International Balloon Museum to
help raises awareness of the needs and capabilities of people with
intellectual disabilities, as well as help fund year-round sports
training and competition for the 2,500 SONM athletes statewide.
Helping make the Fun Walk a huge success year after year, is the
enthusiastic group of teenage volunteers from Albuquerque’s Risen
Savior Catholic Community. Guided by RSCC’s youth minister Jennifer
Murphy, these young leaders of tomorrow have been one of the top
fund raising teams for the Fun Walk since its inception. One of the
primary reason the group chooses Special Olympics to support is
SONM’s drive to build a community of acceptance, tolerance and
understanding.
