DISTINGUISHED Service

I'm never quite sure what it really means to everyone else in our organization, but one of the annual traditions we have established at SONM that I really enjoy is honoring our Distinguished Service Award winners. The ceremony itself is somewhat "relaxed," but the sentiment in which the awards are given is as sincere as it gets.

2009 Holiday Classic State Bowling and Basketball Tournament ends the year in style

Special Olympics New Mexico knows how to close the year in style.  And in the case of sports competitions, we did with numbers.

On Nov. 20 and 21, some 25 delegations making up 501 athletes and 207 coaches/chaperones competed in basketball and bowling for the 2009 Holiday Classic state basketball and south regional bowling competitions.  Of the total athletes, there will be 300 bowlers and 201 basketball players (making up 20 full court basketball teams, 12 3on3 teams, 20 individual skills competitors).

Special thanks to the 2009 Holiday Classic presenting sponsor United Parcel Service, who not only help fund the Games, but provided a couple of basketball officials as well. Additional thanks to SONM's annual corporate sponsors, which include: Dex Media, Mountain States Insurance Group, Citadel Broadcasting Company, ConocoPhillips, New Mexico Knights of Columbus, New Mexico Mutual, New Mexico Law Enforcement Torch Run, Wells Fargo and Sprint Communications.
