Dozens of Special Olympics New Mexico volunteers gather for the 2009 SONM Business Meeting

On August 21st and 22nd, some 100 Special Olympics volunteers, representing the majority of SONM's local programs throughout the state, came together to the Glorieta Conference Center for SONM's 2009 Business Meeting.

The purpose of the State Business Meeting was to update and educate SONM area directors and local program coordinators of SONM's current program policies and procedures.  The meeting also gave the opportunity for SONM's volunteers to inquire about other program functions, including: establishing relationships with local members of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, grant writing, fundraising tips and resources, as well as working with the media and social media best practices.

The meeting was graciously sponsored in full by Duffy and Jean Ann Swan, Wal-Mart and Public Service of New Mexico (PNM).  Thank you to all who attended the 2009 SONM Business Meeting.  For more information or for post event questions, please contact SONM at (505) 856-0342.

Space is limited to go Over The Edge for Special Olympics New Mexico
Register today to reserve your spot

What if, by overcoming a challenge in your life, you could help people with intellectual disabilities overcome a challenge in theirs?  What if you could help provide them a chance to display their courage and determination by showing some of your own?

Now you can, but you'll have to hurry and register.  Space is limited and slots are filling up to go Over the Edge in support of the more than 2,400 Special Olympics New Mexico athletes served.  Register today for a one-of-a-kind rappel down more than 14-stories (over 200-ft) down the New Mexico Bank and Trust building in downtown Albuquerque in front of hundreds of spectators and SONM fans.

The building is located at 320 Gold SW.  The event is on Friday, Sept. 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m.  Participation requires a fee of $1,000, which can raised using SONM's secured online fund raising page: www.firstgiving.com/sonm.  All proceeds will go to benefit SONM’s athletes and year-round, statewide sports program.

Visit www.overtheedgenm.com or contact Heather Scott at (505) 856-0342 to find out how you can register and raise funds for this once in a lifetime adventure.
