Thoughts from Randy

Our Greatest Resource

Last Sunday I attended our State Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition. The thirty-three gymnasts who competed were absolutely great and so were their families. Judging by what I saw going on around me in the bleachers, there wasn’t a mother there who didn’t know every routine by heart. There wasn’t a father there who didn’t take more photos than the Lord should have allowed. Grandparents, parents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, and foster parents the heart of Special Olympics is and always will be our families.

Gallup first stop for UNM Athletics and Special Olympics New Mexico Lobo Tour

The University of New Mexico Athletics Department and Special Olympics New Mexico are going on tour. The 2009 Lobo Country Tour Powered by the New Mexico Sports Authority begins in Gallup, N.M. on Wednesday, May 20 and will continue during the summer with stops throughout the state of New Mexico.

Each tour stop will feature head coaches from the Lobo Athletics teams conducting sports clinics and hanging out with Lobo fans at a community event. Several stops will include a clinic with Lobo partner Special Olympics, New Mexico.  SONM athletes and coaches will join UNM track and field and soccer coaches for some one-on-one skills training and sports presentations.

"This tour represents another way the Lobos are reaching out into our community," said UNM Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs.

And the cops are off!

On Monday, May 18th LETR officers from all over the state began their journey covering 1,600 miles of New Mexico roads, carrying the Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremonies of the 2009 State Summer Games.  Prior to arriving in Albuquerque, the torch is scheduled for an appearance in Santa Fe on Thursday, May 28th at the State Capitol at 3:00 p.m.  There will be presentations from local Global Messengers, as well as NM Attorney General Gary King and NM Chief of Police Faron Segotta.  Also, be sure to catch the FINAL LEG in Albuquerque, as hundreds of LETR officers will run the streets from Civic Plaza to the UNM Stadium.  Click HERE to visit the Law Enforcement Torch Run page.
