Top five
reasons to catch Tip-A-Cop at Applebee's

On Thursday, March 19 dozens of Law Enforcement Officers and Special
Olympics New Mexico (SONM) athletes will put on the aprons for
Applebee’s patrons for the 2009 Tip-A-Cop fundraiser for SONM.
Here are five reasons not to miss all the fun with Special Olympics
and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
5) Law enforcement officers walking around in aprons
4) Law enforcement officers serving you food and drinks
3) Applebee's menu offers a variety of great food and drinks
2) Seeing old friends, and meeting new ones
1) All "tips" will go to support New Mexico's Special Olympics
athletes
The event will take place at participating Applebee’s locations
around New Mexico, including all seven Albuquerque locations, one
Rio Rancho location and two locations in Las Cruces—all from 5:00
p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Roswell feels
growth of SONM
Poly Hockey Championships

The 2009 State Poly Hockey
Championships have come and gone, kicking off the year of SONM state
competitions in pure Special Olympics fashion.
The Roswell community played
host to 338 Poly Hockey players, 104 coaches (and 19 officials with
making up 12 delegations and 31 teams from all over New Mexico from
Albuquerque to Farmington. The growth from last year's
attendance was certainly felt as more games were fit into the
schedule, along with 66 athletes participating in the Individual
Skills Competition.
Outside of the competition,
Special Olympics families and friends donated some 900 pounds of dry
food and canned goods, which was then delivered to Roswell's
Community Kitchen. Thank you for everyone who participated
helping feed the hungry.
Of course, a very special thank you to all our volunteers and
sponsors whose support provided yet another magnificent stage for
our athletes to shine and their families to feel pride and joy.
Please join us in thanking the following sponsors the next time
you happen to do business with any of them:

Thoughts
from Randy

Moments
”The Special Olympics movement is built upon hundreds of big moments
and thousands upon thousands of small ones.” The first time I read
that statement, it rang so loud and true, I had to read it again.
Those words instantly took me back twenty years ago and then to
thoughts of yesterday, because that’s what Special Olympics has been
in my life, big and small moments, over and over, from day one to
now. The best thing about every single one of those big and small
moments of years ago and yesterday is that they come beautifully
wrapped in unforgettable names and faces, faces that smile as they
play, faces that long to matter, faces void of judgment, faces
filled with hope.
