Special Olympics a solid fit for sponsor Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q

Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM) and Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q share a common goal: to provide a quality product and service along with a memorable experience that strengthens communities and keeps people coming back. For three years, this partnership has enhanced the quality of SONM’s State Summer Games.

In Special Olympics, that service is the quality of the many sports training programs and competitions that offers people with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to develop physical fitness, self-confidence and become respected and productive members of their community. For Rudy’s, it’s about providing delicious meals, such as their famous oak smoked meats, with delightful hospitality for the whole family.

Games run smooth at 2008 Holiday Classic in Las Cruces

While the addition of the North Regional Bowling Competition resulted in less overall athletes at the 2008 Holiday Classic State Basketball and South Regional Bowling Competition on Nov. 21 and 22 in Las Cruces, the Games were nothing short of exceptional.

With some 548 coaches and athletes, bowlers and basketball players filled the New Mexico State University Student Activities Center and Ten Pin Alley bowling arena. On Friday night, hundreds of athletes, coaches, volunteers and family members gathered at Dickerson's for food, announcements and entertainment provided by the
Crimson Chord Company.  SONM athlete Terry Gonzales of the Las Cruces Community Adult Program carried the "flame of hope" to light the Olympic Cauldron, while Roberta Martinez Flores of Mecca Therapies announced the opening of the games.
