Special Olympics helps unite Panda Express employees

When Panda Express employees arrived at the 2008 Special Olympics New Mexico State Summer Games in May, they knew they were helping a good cause. But what they weren’t expecting was just how much their contribution to Special Olympics was going to bring them together.

On Saturday, May 31 nearly two dozen Panda Express employees from three locations cooked, delivered and served some 2,000 lunches to crowds of SONM athletes and families at the UNM Track and Field Stadium in Albuquerque.

International LETR Conference announces $34 million raised for Special Olympics in 2008

On October 30 – November 1, the New Mexico Law Enforcement Torch Run sent 19 local law enforcement officers and Special Olympics staff members to the 2008 International Law Enforcement Torch Run Conference in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Special Olympics athlete Van Pexa of Albuquerque was among the group representing SONM athletes.  LETR officer John Francis of the Rio Rancho Police Department earned a  nomination for the LETR Hall of Fame.

The climax of the conference came when LETR conference officials announced a record-breaking year of $34 million raised on behalf of Special Olympics worldwide.  Click here for more information about the International LETR Conference.

Thoughts from Randy

I am writing these thoughts to the athletes of Special Olympics New Mexico.

I don’t know how many of you listened to our Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain, but if you did, you probably heard them say the word “change” a lot. These two leaders feel strongly about our country needing to take a different direction.

When I would hear them say the word change, I would think about you, and how you have changed the direction of my thinking.
