Enforcement Torch Run’s® Tip-a-Cop brings the values of Special
Olympics to Applebee’s patrons

For the second time this year, the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR)
partnered with Applebee’s restaurants across the state to raise
awareness about Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM) on Thursday, Oct.
23.
In its second effort, LETR’s Tip-a-Cop, a fundraiser that puts cops
in aprons to serve food and collect “tips” from Applebee’s
customers, raised $15,000—matching the amount raised earlier this
year in March. Combined, the two events have raised a total of
$30,000, with participation from ten different Applebee’s locations
in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Las Cruces. Proceeds from these
Tip-a-Cop events will be used to provide quality year-round sports
training and competition for SONM athletes in a variety of
Olympic-type sports.
“At a time when it’s a little harder to part with our money,
Tip-A-Cop is a great reminder that it only takes a few bucks to
change the way we see ourselves and the way we see others,” said
Executive Director Randy Mascorella.
