Greetings!
Florida Keys anglers and guides are still reeling from this year's fantastic springtime tarpon fishing! As 2010's great migration of Megalops Atlanticus winds down, many have said they have never seen tarpon fishing of this quality in their lifetime, even better than in 2009. I attribute this to several things. First, the guides and anglers are better and more knowledgeable than they have ever been! There are more great fly casters among the anglers and they are able to use the high performance equipment to the max. Broader numbers of angler's have developed fish fighting skills that are at new levels of competence. Guides have attained higher levels of effective communication with anglers and guides' abilities for analyzing skill levels of their anglers has had a tremendous impact on hookups. A lot of success is being enjoyed by more people at the top of their game than ever before! Secondly, tarpon have finally learned what they are supposed to do, bite the darn fly! As we move into the summertime, there are plenty of things to do. Fishing can be fantastic with lots of options! Tailing & mudding bonefish are common. Big tarpon cruising in the same shallow water as redfish can be found. Cruising in the Gulf for tripletail can provide some great action while staying cool. Big tides bring on the permit. Most of the boats you see on the water will be two guides taking advantage of summer fishing. Other than holiday weekends hotel and motel rates are lower and, with today's technology; hurricane forecasting is excellent so you can often book on short notice. There are also lots of things for the family to do; snorkeling, diving, lobsters, the pool, snapper fishing and great sunsets!

Sandy's Angling Tip of the Month
Improve your visibility by using a quality pair of polarized
sunglasses, a visor or cap with a dark brim (for glare absorption) and a sun
mask, or some other face protection. In
addition to protecting you from the sun a mask will absorb glare from the water
and deck of the skiff.

Product Highlights
Yes, summers in South Florida are hot, but you can look good, stay cool and enjoy great Florida Keys summer fishing! A good pair of polarized sunglasses is an absolute necessity for seeing fish through the water, especially snook which are super stealthy. My preference is Kaenon's Hardcore which have large lenses, open bottom frame and great color separation. They can be purchased online, call or email us if you'd like more details, 305-664-5423.
Imperial Headwear FKO Caps will keep the sun off your head and help shield your eyes from the glare on those windless summer Keys days, with Florida Keys Outfitters' logo.
Patagonia Sun Masks, sun protection only works if you wear it, comfort means everything. Inspired by old-school bandana face protection, the Sun Mask improves the concept with an anatomically designed shape and Patagonia's light cool 100% recycled polyester Capilene 1 fabric. The top hugs you face without unwanted pressure, while the bottom flares for neck coverage. Order online.
