VCEH has updated the list of bills under consideration by the General Assembly that pertain to homelessness current as of February 11, 2010.

With a fast moving legislative session, many bills have already died or been tabled.  There are several bills that are still alive and have a promising chance ESPECIALLY IF we all speak with our legislators in support.

SPOTLIGHT AND ACTION NEEDED:
HB 718, if enacted, will require the Governor and General Assembly to create a plan to reduce the number of children in foster care by 25 percent over ten years.  This legislation, patroned by Delegate Chris Peace, passed the House of Delegates and will now be considered by the Senate.

We know that housing is a critical factor to keep children out of foster care and preserve and reunify families.  With a focused effort we can both keep families together and prevent and end homelessness.
