Partnership Opportunities Created for Homelessness Prevention and Assistance
|
Community action agencies and several units of local government will be receiving an increase in the federal Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) as a result of the federal economic recovery legislation. As community action agency clients and homeless services clients significantly overlap, there is an opportunity to coordinate and leverage the new CSBG dollars with the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP) dollars. The more communities can coordinate and streamline the resources that are available, the farther the dollars will be stretched. Stretching dollars equals serving more families and serving them more effectively.
Those receiving the CSBG funds must complete a plan for the use of the funds by May 15. If you have not already met with your local community action agency, set up a meeting now to discuss potential partnership and coordination opportunities. Click here for a list of the community action agencies across Virginia.
More Information on the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) CSBG is a federal block grant which provides States with funds to lessen poverty in communities. The funds are distributed to community action agencies and units of local government and can be used for services and activities addressing employment, education, income, housing, nutrition, emergency services and / or health. The funds can be used to provide homelessness prevention assistance.
