Weekly E-NewsAugust 21, 2012

This Sunday is the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

August 26, 2012

In this Sunday's Gospel, we hear the conclusion of the "I am the Bread of Life" discourse from the Gospel according to John. It takes some creative imagining from Christ's followers to understand what he is saying, and many leave the mission at this point in his ministry. Peter's plaintive cry, "Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life," still resonate for many of us today.

In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, our parish is being prayed for.

During the 10:30 am service Makayla Roze Manning will receive the Sacrament of Baptism. Let us welcome Makayla and her family and friends this week as they come to support her and pray for her as she becomes our newest member.

The hymns this Sunday are "How lovely is thy dwelling place", "I believe in God almighty", "Lord, enthroned in heavenly splendor", "Let us break bread together on our knees"' and "Holy, holy, holy!"

Choir Camp 2012
Choir Camp was so much fun! We are really proud of all the campers, but especially our leaders from the Choir School at Grace Church: Campbell and Oliver Boisvert, Ben Duffy Howard, Andrew Rawding, Avery Ross, Elizabeth Trahan, Jeremy Valatka, and our two incoming freshmen, Charlotte Ross and Kerry Steadman. Thank you to St. John's, Beverly Farms for hosting and to Pat Small and Jane Stewart for making lunches for us all.
We look forward to choir camp again next August. Please check the website next week for video of the camp.

Alex's Lemonade Stand at Grace Church

On Saturday September 1 through Monday, September 3, the O'Connell Family will be hosting "Alex's Lemonade Stand" from 12 noon to 4:00 pm each day at Grace Church. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. John, Megan, John and Ellie O'Connell invite you to stop by for some lemonade, which will support cancer research. They also invite anyone who wishes to join them working at the stand to come on by.
