Rev. Dr. Carolyn Weber Leading Worship this Sunday - September 16

Rev. Dr. Carolyn Weber, mission coworker to Ethiopia, will speak at Faith United Presbyterian Church on Sunday, September 16, to the 9:15 a.m. worship service. She will also preach at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Weber is traveling across the US to share about her work with the people of Ethiopia as she completes her first three year assignment equipping church leaders at Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Sent by the World Mission Program of the Presbyterian Church (USA) through its partnership with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church (EECMY), Rev. Dr. Weber has been teaching advanced English classes as well as religious and theological classes to students in the undergrad and graduate degree programs at Mekane Yesus Seminary. In addition, she frequently preaches and leads women's spiritual trainings around Ethiopia.

She will return to Ethiopia on January 2, 2013, to begin her second term of service.

Carolyn is known to Galesburg and Monmouth-area residents for her nine and one-half years ministry at the United Church of Oneida, a federated United Methodist and Presbyterian Church (USA), from 1999-2009. She was a member of the Monmouth Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Prior to that, she served the Presbyterian Church of Valentine, Nebraska.

In preparation for Rev. Dr. Weber's visit, she has asked us to "... please study the news and pray for a peaceful transfer of power. Two major figures have recently died in Ethiopia - Abune was the patriarch in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church - and Meles Zenawi was the very powerful prime minister (even overshadowing the president). Your prayers are vital at this time!"
