Greetings!
I (Margie) was 13, skinny as a rail with knobby knees and big frizzy hair. There were only 3 kids in my confirmation class and it lasted for a whole year. It was a special day; I wore a new red dress and my grandparents were coming. My dad (the minister) had a red and white beard. He was growing it for the beard contest for our town's centennial celebration, I thought he looked very handsome with his beard and black robe. I was so relieved to be done and so thrilled that 'today' I would be able to take communion for the very first time. I felt completely filled with the Holy Spirit and connected to Jesus and in love with God. If you went through communicates class or confirmation do you remember the day you were confirmed? Was it a special day?
This Sunday, we will confirm 3 wonderful youth into the body of Jesus Christ - his church and ours - Faith United Presbyterian. They have been a great class. They have attended well, and have genuinely seemed to care about what they were learning. We have great hopes that this class will continue their journey of faith their whole life long.
The idea that Confirmation is graduation from church is something we dread. Too many youth do confirmation for their parents or grandparents and then look so forward to the end that we barely ever see them again. I do not think that will be the case with this class. God has richly blessed them all and I think they are aware of that fact and want to respond.
Please join together this week and the weeks to come in greeting them warmly, encouraging them and praying for them as they face a culture that makes it very hard to be a faithful Christian.
"My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and abundant
welfare they will give you. ... trust and honor God." Proverbs 3:1-2
See you in church!

Isabel Circle
Isabel Circle will meet at 7:00 p.m. this evening at the home of Jane Kellogg at 1012 East Euclid Avenue. Lorna Blackford will serve as the lesson facilitator for Lesson Eight, titled, "The Empire Has Fallen! Evacuate Now!" from the 2010-2011 Horizons Bible Study. All women are invited to attend the meeting.
Our journey through Revelation culminates in a tale of two cities: Babylon (representing the Roman Empire) and the New Jerusalem (God's holy city), with a call to make a choice between them. The lesson will look at the vision in Revelation 17-18, where we view the judgement of the evil city, Babylon/Rome. The city is personified in a shocking way, as a whore. John of Patmos wants us to be repulsed by Rome's seductively violent ways -- to be shocked at the collapse of its fabulous wealth and power. Even though Rome is still very much in power when John writes Revelation, he seeks to convince readers that the Roman Empire is doomed. His urgent message is that we must "come out" of the imperial system of Babylon before it is too late, so that we can participate as citizens in God's New Jerusalem, the city of blessing and promise.

The meetings will be held in the social hall on Thursday, June 2, at 4:00 P.M. and Sunday, June 5, following church. Teddy Bear News...
During the Week of the Young Child last month, we at Teddy Bear C.D.C. celebrated early childhood education and honored our young students. We also took time to reflect on how much we appreciate the church. Faith Church opened their doors to us over twenty years ago and gave us an incredible opportunity to enrich the lives of many young children in our community.
To help celebrate that special week, we invited Pastor Myers to read a story to the children. We also asked Dorothy Behnke, Kathy Lewis from Warren County Library, Vicki McNamara from United Way, and Chris Johnston from Monmouth College to do the same.
The students at Teddy Bear have been learning about spring during the past couple months. We have enjoyed being able to walk around the church seeing the signs of spring, especially the beautiful flowers in the courtyard. In May, we will discuss recycling, helping to save the earth, how seeds grow, what's on the farm, and learning about rabbits.
Also, during the month of May, Teddy Bear staff and students will be selling raffle tickets to win a limited edition Isabel Bloom figure, signed by Bloom Designer, Donna Young. This special edition finish piece is called "Angel of Hope," and features an angel holding a purple dove. Tickets are $1 each. If you would like to purchase tickets, please stop by Teddy Bear anytime Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. or contact Gary or Denise. The winner will be announced at our Spring Program and Graduation.
This year, our Spring Program and Graduation will have a patriotic theme. We would like to include members of the church who are veterans or currently serving our country in our program. If you, a relative, or friend has served or is currently serving, we would like to include their picture in our tribute. Please bring your picture to Teddy Bear and include name and rank. We will copy the picture and return it immediately. Our Spring Program and Graduation ceremony will be held Friday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. We hope to see our Faith Church friends on this very special occasion.
