WNL & the Hands of Christ from
Christian Education Director, Margie Myers

Margaret Myers

Our 5th & 6th grade kids fell in love with the bright red shirts with neon green letters.  They designed the shirts with mission in mind.  The front has a hand print surrounded by "WNL Helping Hands Faith United Presbyterian Church.  The back says "TEAM GOD"  These are the shirts that the older WNL kids wear when they go into our community and do mission work.  Since September, Jane Kellogg and our children have worked in the barn at Rainbow Riders, read books, played games and talked with residents at Courtyard Estates and Monmouth Nursing Home, worked in the thrift store and played games with children at Jamieson Center, gathered and sorted birthday party supplies to be given to needy families, carried bricks for Calvary Baptist Church and numerous other service projects.  They have loved everything they have done.  Everything!

Several grateful people have commented to the kids that they are doing "God's Work."  It has been wonderful for the children to hear this from someone outside the church.  They know they will hear it from us, after all, the church is all about God.  But when others tell them, it plants the seed we have sowed even deeper into their hearts and minds.  They were very astute to put a hand on their shirt, we have tried to teach them that we are the hands of Christ in the world.  God works through us to touch the lives of others in the name of Jesus Christ.  Even atheists help people, but we do it with a different spirit - the Holy Spirit leading us to live the life of Christ.  This is what we want to plant in our children as early as possible.   We are so glad when the recipients of this love remind us that they recognize God's love in each of these children.   We thank God for the opportunity to love and for the children who want to love in the name of Jesus Christ.

Lesson Six: Witness to Hope:  The Woman, the Dragon, and Earth's Daring Rescue

At the center of Revelation, we encounter two of the most dramatic and deeply symbolic stories, representing the life-and-death struggle that is at the heart of Revelation.

Revelation does not proceed chronologically; it sometimes uses flashbacks.  The stories in Revelations 12 are flashbacks.  Even though they come in the middle of the book, they actually are telling the story of Jesus' victory on the cross -- a vital message for the isolated and powerless Christian communities of John Patmos' day -- an event that has already happened, and in which Satan and evil are defeated.  Revelation 12 uses the symbolic picture of Satan stalking the earth in order to warn Christians that things will get worse under Rome's rule, where persecution has become empire-wide, before life for the Christians become better.
