"God Chose What is Foolish"

"Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.  But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God.  He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."

Potato Bake Thank You

As always, our Potato Bake was a huge success.  We were able to put $459.00 toward our mission trip.  Thank you to those of you who brought a salad or dessert, and to the congregation for always supporting us.

Isabel Circle

Isabel Circle will meet at the home of Pam Youngblood at 341 South 8th Street at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27th.  Jonalyn Heaton will facilitate Lesson Four from the 2010-2011 Horizons Bible Study: Journey Through Revelation Apocalyptic Hope for Today.

Revelation unfolds like a drama.  In order to reach hope at the end of the journey, we must first experience great conflict and judgement.  Seven seals are followed in quick succession by seven trumpets, each visiting calamities upon the earth.  They function as an urgent wake-up call to the churches being addressed.  They are not meant as predictions, but rather as prophetic judgment.  These visions deliver God's word of diagnosis about the evils of the Roman Empire, along with divine assurance that the empire's reign of violence will soon come to an end.  These visions speak to us today, helping to unveil toxic aspects of our own culture.  The good news is that the witness of God's people truly makes a difference.  God hears the cries of all victims who suffer, and God answers them.

WNL

February 2 is skating night at Rainbow Roller Rink.

Birthday Bash in a Box

The 5th & 6th graders of WNL are starting a new mission project for kids in our community.  They would like to make Birthday boxes for families who can't afford to give their children the kind of party other kids have.

We hope to include in a box:

Cake mix

Frosting

Cupcake cups

Candles

Themed plates

Cups

Napkins

Table cloth

Plastic utensils

Cake decorations

Simple games

Goodie bags

Small toys and candy to go in goodie bags

If you have leftovers from your party or want to buy new please bring them to the church and place them in the birthday box around the corner from the parking lot door.

Kids love themed parties:  Batman, Princess, Cars, Barbie...  but, anything is welcome.

Thank you for your help, our kids will have fun making the boxes and knowing their helping to make a child's birthday a special one.

Cookies Needed

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive on February 9, at the American Legion.  The church has been contacted to supply 15 dozen cookies for it.

If you are able to donate, please sign up on the office door or call Heather at 734-5129.  Cookies can be dropped off at the American Legion before 11:00 a.m. at the American Legion.
