"An Invitation to Read the Bible"

On November 28, we began our challenge to read the Bible in a year.  Below is a list of the second week.  You may also find your daily/weekly Scripture readings in the bulletin, e-newsletter, or on Facebook.

And for families, the C.E. committee came up with an idea to make it easier for parents to read the Bible with their children.  We have purchased 15 - 365 day children's Bibles.  There is a story for each day of the day with pictures.  If your family would like to have one of these Bibles, please let Margie know by calling 734-5129.

Monday - Genesis 24:1-25:33

Tuesday - Genesis 25:34-27:45

'Tis the Season to be Thankful

Look for a sign our WNL children have made.  They want to help you remember to bring food each week for the Jamieson Center box.  You may bring anything non-perishable and place it in the shopping cart or a box at the door.  To make it easier, you could go with a schedule such as this:

Dec. 5  - Spaghetti Sauce  & noodles

Dec. 12 - Raman noodles & soups

Dec. 19 - rice & beans

Dec. 26 - Peanut Butter & Jelly

Jan. 2 - Hamburger/Tuna Helper & tuna  or Mac & Cheese

Let's fill the boxes each week!  Thank you!!

Old Fashion Christmas

Enjoy an Old Fashion Christmas at the Warren County Historical Museum this weekend Dec. 4th and 5th from 1-4 each day.  Stroll through the various rooms to observe the progress that has been made and see the beautiful Christmas decorations.  Esther White will be telling stories in the Old Country School room on Sat.  Children will be able to decorate Christmas stockings and make paper chains for their tree.  Three Christmas trees are decorated with 300 red stars that have the name of a local veteran.  Sun. afternoon Ally Phillips and friends will be singing at 1 pm  with the United High School choir singing at 2 pm.  At 2:30 a veteran will present a short program.  Refreshments will be served.  Free to all.

Fillman Fellowship

Our Thursday, December 9, the Fillman Fellowship meeting will be held at Stewart House located at 1015 East Euclid.  We invite you to bring a sandwich and join us at 5 p.m.  Donations will still be accepted for our annual gift for a needy family.  Also gloves, mittens, and hats may be brought to add to the Mitten Tree for Jamieson Center.

How is it Going?

The first week of Advent and I am already behind!  As I write, it is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.  Our newsletter deadline has come and gone.  Kindly, Heather asks:  "Do you have anything for the newsletter?"  Sure.

We are four days into our "Invitation to Read the Bible."  While I have no way of knowing how many of our congregation are committing themselves to reading the Bible, I have enjoyed hearing from a handful who have.

They seem to be keeping up well and are enjoying the challenge.  To a person, they have all been surprised how easy it has been to do.  For most, the readings have only taken about 10-15 minutes each day.  This is comparable to what my family has found, when we have read the passages on our own.  When we read the passages, together, we find it takes a little longer.

This is probably been the greatest joy.  When we read the passages together, we inevitably engage in conversation about the scriptures we have read.

In some ways, such conversation is not knew.  Our family has often engage in theological conversations about life, faith, and church.  A hazard of the profession.

However, these biblical

conversations are a little different.  Here we are wrestling together with

God's Word.  Asking questions.  Offering insights.  I can't tell you, even in this short time, what a gift it has been to read the scriptures with my teenage son (yes, Margie, too).  My only regret is that Elizabeth is not here

to join us.

I know our journey has just begun.  Where it will take us, God knows.  If you have started reading your bible daily, I hope you are finding a few blessings, as well.  If you haven't, it's not too late to join us.  I look forward to seeing how this journey changes our lives and our life together.  Especially in this season of Advent, I believe we will see ever more clearly, God is with us.

See you in church!
