Wash Day Ministry - Grant Approved!
The Wash Day Ministry Committee is very pleased to announce that it has received a Mission Initiative Grant from the Visioning Council of the Presbytery of Great Rivers in the amount of $7,150 to cover all start-up costs for the ministry, including the purchasing of machines, installation, and operating costs. We will be presented with a check at the next Presbytery meeting on November 16. Session has given its go-ahead for the committee to begin the next phase of preparations, so plumbing work and purchasing of the machines will begin soon. Isabel Circle
Isabel Circle will meet at the home of Lolla Ballard at 119 South 7th Street in Monmouth on Thursday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m. Bible study will be held before the business meeting. Jane Kellogg will be the lesson leader. All women are invited to attend.
The journey through Revelation will continue with the study of Chapter Two from 2010-2011 Horizons Bible Study. The Scripture on which the lesson is based is Revelation 2-3 in which John of Patmos addresses a series of letters to the early Christian communities of Asia Minor. The seven individual letters are like performance reviews, examining the strengths and weaknesses of each church. Through these letters John encourages his readers to remain faithful to Christ, and Christ alone. His goal is to persuade the early Christians to not blend in with their culture but to remain faithful witnesses to Jesus, just as we are called to do in this present time. Study participants will explore who the seven churches were, why John Of Patmos wrote to the churches the way he did, and what we can learn from the ancient churches' struggles.
None of the information that is presented in this study is an attempt to change an individual's personal beliefs or to project a specific world view. Rather, the hope is that through the information and each lesson's engaging exercises, participants will pick up some facts that will lead them to ask more questions and to grow more deeply in their "apocalyptic journey" through the remarkable book of Revelation.
Hopefully, each of us will find the time to read through the lesson before the meeting. Realistically, we all have many demands on our time so please try to attend the meeting even if you don't have time to study in advance. Revelation was and is a book that was and is meant to be read in community so you are needed as a part of our Family of Faith.
