Greetings!
This crazy weather! Last year the youth scheduled a time in late October to rake as a service for members and friends of Faith United Presbyterian Church. I remember gathering the youth on a very cold (wind advisory) day to head out and begin our raking. Well, lets just say it was kind of a flop! Leaves were still clinging tightly to the trees, so not many were lying on the ground. And, the ones that were, kept blowing away. In the end, I'm not sure we really did a service to help people.
You can understand that naturally for this year I felt it would be best to plan our raking at a later date in the season, perhaps in early November - just to be sure we were able to do an adequate job for our folks. The date I have listed to rake is November 8th. Now, as I look outside and see all the wonderfully colored leaves splashed on the ground, I'm hoping that I haven't, once again, missed the perfect raking date. Thankfully, there are still many trees that have leaves on them so hopefully a little over a week away will be just fine - oh, and a little cooperation from the weather also!
If you would like for the youth to rake your yard, you can either respond to this e-newsletter letting me know you'd like for us to rake, sign-up on the office door, or call, 734-5129. Again, we'll be raking next Sunday, November 8, from 1-4.
Heather

| Christ's Helping Hands: Starting Point
Our focus on mission for the month of November is Starting Point. Starting Point was founded nearly thirty-five years ago as a non-profit, faith based ministry serving men living with substance abuse. Today, it is still a faith based ministry relying on God to meet the many needs of those who receive services provided by Starting Point. God faithfully provides for Starting Point through support from local churches and donations from individuals and community organizations.

Food Needed!
Jamieson Center has had to close their food bank occasionally because their shelves were empty. In talking with Dori, I discovered that this is problem this time of year up until December.
We can help! Please bring food each week for the Jamieson Center box. You may bring anything non-perishable and place it in the box at the door. To make it easier you could go with a schedule such as this. Nov. 1 - Pancake mix & Syrup Nov. 8 - Spaghetti Sauce & noodles Nov. 15 - Raman noodles & soups Nov. 22 - rice & beans Nov. 29 - Peanut Butter & Jelly Let's fill the boxes each week! Thank you!!

Icebreakers
The Icebreakers will meet Sunday afternoon, November 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Buchanan Center for the Arts, 64 Public Square, Monmouth. Susan Twomey, Director of the Center, will present information about the Center and its operation.
Sugar Tree Grove Presbyterian Church is holding its annual soup luncheon that day and all Icebreakers are invited to attend and help support their church's fund-raising activity. Serving runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. so we will have time after our Faith Church morning service to attend and still make the 1:30 p.m. meeting at the Buchanan Center. Cost of the soup luncheon is $5.00.
Reservations for the noon luncheon and the 1:30 p.m. meeting are requested by Friday, October 30, and can be made by calling Jo Ellen Dollinger (734-8627), Donna Larson (734-6103), or Darlene Moffett (734-5537).

What Do You Think?

Who Is Our
Mission Field? "I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
Isaiah 43:19 Take a few deep breaths, as you read these words of Isaiah over and again. When they are comfortably sounding in your heart, imagine yourself sitting in our sanctuary. Notice the sun shining through the stained glass window. Feel the comfort of this place. Listen for God's voice. "I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." Now, in the comfort of God's presence, imagine a wilderness place in your life. Is it a place of unbearable light or overwhelming darkness? Is it filled with deafening noise or eerie silence? Who is there? Are you alone or being consumed by the crowd? Look for God in this place. Where is God doing a "new thing"? Where might you find a spring of Living Water? Are there those with you in need of such refreshment? Listen for the water. See its clarity. Feel its freshness. Drink its vitality. Share its life. Give thanks to God for the "new thing" God is about to do in your life. "Jesus called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits."
Mark 6:7 Refreshed and renewed, call two or three friends from church, maybe even your pastor, and go into our community. Visit Maple City Diner, Cottage Corner or the Barn Stormer. Walk through Shopko or County Market, Save-a-Lot or Dollar General. Stop by Tooties' or Danny's or another local "watering hole". Attend a concert, play or sporting event at Monmouth College or one of the local schools. Who is there? What are they doing? What are they talking about? What are their ages, genders, race? What language are they speaking? How are they dressed? Can you imagine how they might be employed? Do they live in the area? Work in the area? Are they transient? Are they hurried or is there manner leisurely? What do these people have in their lives? What might they need? What could be missing? How do you feel in this place and with these people? Pray silently for the people you see, for the businesses you visit, the people living in that part of our community, etc. Ask God to reveal how we might how we might share the Living Water God has shared with us. Ask God to reveal how we might be called to be part of the "new thing" God is doing in their lives. See you in church! Pastor Myers revhaggis1@hotmail.com
