Greetings!
So I've been thinking lately...Isn't it unfortunate that so many people will go through their entire life never knowing what it's like to be part of a church family? It has really been a tough year for a lot of people in our congregation, yet so many of them still go above and beyond to help someone in need, regardless of their own circumstances. These people bring tears of joy and a heart full of love to so many! When I grow up I want to be just like them! All kidding aside, their actions really make me want to be a better person!
So who are these people? Why they are you of course! Thank you for not only loving me and my family, but for giving so much love to one another! Love - it is the greatest gift of all!
Blessings,
Heather

Peacemaking Offering
We will continue to accept any contributions to the Peace Offering throughout October. Please use the designated envelopes in the pews or use a regular envelope and write on it, "For Peacemaking Offering." We hope you will join us in committing ourselves to working for the unity of the church and the peace of Christ. |
Christ's Helping Hands: Kandithankulam
As part of the Mission Committee's new giving program this year, for the month of October we are again targeting Kandithankulam. We hope that at some point this month you will make a donation designated for this program; to do so, write "Kandithankulam" on the memo line of your check or on a regular pew envelope and make the contribution during the weekly collection - or drop it by or mail it to the church office. Please also keep the project in your prayers this month as it works to help those in need. Our goal is both to help the church maintain its trational support for this mission and to raise awareness that it is important for all of us, in whatever way we can, to carry our message of Christ's love to others.

Marriage
On October 18, as part of our service of worship at 10:30 a.m., our congregation will witness the vows of Christian Marriage for Ted Briscoe and Vicki Young Briscoe. Ted and Vicki were previously married in a civil service on April 24, 2009. They wish to make a public proclamation of their marriage in the sight of God and before their family and their friends at Faith United Presbyterian Church.
Come and celebrate this joyous occasion with Ted, Vicki, and their family. Ted and Vicki will host the coffee hour after church that day and invite all to stay and continue the celebration with them.

Food Needed!
Jamieson Center had to close their food bank for part of this week because their shelves were empty. In talking with Dori, I discovered that this is a problem this time of year up until December.
We can help! Please bring food each week for the Jamieson Center box. You may bring anything non- perishable and place it in the shopping cart or a box at the door. To make it easier you could go with a schedule such as this. Oct. 18 - Hamburger or Tuna Helper& tuna or Macaroni & Cheese Oct. 25 - Cereal Nov. 1 - Pancake mix & Syrup Nov. 8 - Spaghetti Sauce & noodles Nov. 15 - Raman noodles & soups Nov. 22 - rice & beans Nov. 29 - Peanut Butter & Jelly Let's fill the boxes each week! Thank you!! |

What Do You Think?

Who Are We Called
to Serve? "That night Paul had a dream: A Macedonian stood on the far shore and called across the sea, "Come over to Macedonia and help us!" The dream gave Paul his map. We went to work at once getting things ready to cross over to Macedonia. All the pieces had come together. We knew now for sure that God had called us to preach the good news to the Europeans."
Acts 16:9-10 After parting ways with Barnabas, Paul had a dream. From his dream, Paul discerned a clear sense of call. He and Timothy were to travel to Macedonia and preach the good news of Jesus Christ to the Europeans. Would that God spoke so clearly all the time. Our congregation has been here for almost 45 years. Many of our members remember those days. Before Faith United was born there were many other Presbyterian congregations in Warren and Henderson Counties to whom God had provided a rich history of ministry. Some of them remain. Some joined together to become our congregation. Some have been gone for a while. The point is our world is turning and our community is changing. People no longer look or dress or act or think like they once did. In some ways this is good. In many ways this is not so good. What does it mean for us to do ministry in a community that is no longer predominately Presbyterian, culturally or theologically? To simply jettison those things which make us who we are cannot be the answer for we would no longer be Presbyterian. Yet, to hold on to attitudes and practices, which no longer make sense in our time and place, "because we have always done it this way" is no better a solution. To quote Bob Dylan, when you could actually understand what the great troubadour was singing, "The answer, my friends, is blowin' in the wind." Prayerful discernment of God's Holy Spirit, in our time and place, is what we need most. Whether it comes in a dream, as it did for Paul; in the work of a committee; or, as the still small voice of God revealed in our worship or private devotions, we need to be open to the very real presence of the Living God in our midst. As God was alive and well and working in the lives of those who have come before us, God is alive and well and working in our life together today. In our life together... Who is God calling you to be? Where is your passion for ministry? Who is God calling you to reach? Who has God placed upon your hearts? See you in church! Pastor Myers revhaggis1@hotmail.com
