Greetings!
As you are probably aware, Calvary Baptist Church, which has been in Monmouth for over 147 years had to tear down their church home last summer due to structural problems. Their church history in this community is long and deep and they are committed to continuing as a church. They have continued to gather for worship at Strom Center, but have been working on a plan to rebuild their church home. They have been blessed as groups and organizations have stepped forward to help them with the demolition, clean up, filling and laying the foundation. They will be getting more help in their rebuilding process from a group from North Carolina, "Experiencing God Through Missions, Inc." The group is made up of people from 25 churches from various denominations in North Carolina whose mission is to help build and repair churches throughout the country.
This mission group of approximately 100 volunteers will be in Monmouth starting September 13th to help with the rebuilding process. They travel to Monmouth at their own expense. The volunteers will be housed at the 1st Street Armoury, which is where the churches and people of Warren County come in. Obviously, with this many people, there will be many needs including support for meals. It is my hope that we can enlist our churches to support these volunteers who are helping in our community.
Faith United Presbyterian Church will be helping host one of those meals on September 17. If you would, please sign up on the office door at the church to bring one of the following:
- Potato Salad
- Baked Beans
- Dessert
Donations are needed as well and can be dropped off at the 1st Street Armoury 5 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 13 or before 9:30 on Monday morning. Donations could be one of the following:
- Muffins for breakfast Tuesday - 4 dozen & Thursday - 4 dozen
- Bagels for breakfast Tuesday - 4 dozen & Thursday - 4 dozen
- Milk - Skim or 1%
- English Muffins - 10 dozen - dropped off by Sunday evening (these will be used for a breakfast dish on Monday, the leftovers will be used for breakfasts throughout the week).
- Donations for groceries - the group will bring volunteers with them who will prepare breakfasts and lunches. Gift certificates/gift cards to Save-A-Lot or CountyMarket would be a great help.
- Desserts - they serve desserts for both lunch and dinner throughout the week. There are approximately 5 meals that need desserts (for 100). Desserts can be dropped off early in the week and used throughout as needed.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this request. God has given our Christian community an opportunity to come together in His name - I have faith that we are worthy of the challenge. In Christ, Barb Byrne

Homecoming Sunday
The time is quickly approaching to celebrate the renewal of our life together,as we begin another program year. On Homecoming Sunday, September 13, we will praise God with special music from the Maple City Dixieland Jazz Band; share in the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper; discover the vitality of our ministry; feast on hot dogs and hamburgers; and, welcome back many who have been "on holiday" for the summer. You are encouraged to attend this festival Sunday and invite a friend!
Worship is at 10:30 a.m. There will be a "Know Your Church Fair" in the social hall immediately following worship. The all-church picnic will be held in the social hall and a few tables will be on the church lawn of the southwest side of the building. Bring a dish or two to share and your own table service. Meat and drinks will be provided.
