Greetings!
Tuesday I read from an online devotional that spoke about Miley Cyrus and her appearance on the Teen Choice Awards. Since I didn't watch it on t.v., I went to check it out on youtube.
Below the video there were more comments than I cared to read; but from the few that I glanced at, I could see where the rest of 100+ remarks were probably going. Personally, as a mom, I would've wanted a more tasteful dance and outfit. But then again, I know my children have also made choices not pleasing to God. Actually, I think it's fair to say we all have! The difference is that our lives aren't looked at under a microscope. And thank goodness for that! Can you image what people would say about us if they knew every detail of our life? Yikes!
As people of faith, I don't believe it is our job to tear one another down every time one of us makes a mistake. Most of us know, anyway, when we've gone astray. Do we really need someone pointing out all our failures and mishaps? I'm not suggesting that we turn our heads and look the other way. I am merely saying that showing grace has far better results.
Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults- unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It's easy to see a smudge on your neighbor's face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, 'Let me wash your face for you,' when your own face is distorted by contempt? It's this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor (Matthew 7:1-5, The Message).
Blessings,
Heather |

Church Lawn
To cut down on expenses, we are asking for volunteers to mow the church lawn this summer. (Please plan on using your own mower.) A weekly schedule has been made for those who would like to sign up on the office door. If you had signed up previously, you will need to sign up again. Thank You!

| Show off Your Smarts at Team Trivia Night!
The Mission committee is sponsoring a Team Trivia Night in the social hall on Sunday, August 30, at 5:00 p.m. to encourage fellowship and to raise money for Kandithankulam, Jamieson Center, Starting Point, and Rainbow Riders. Categories will cover a wide range, from sports, the Bible, history, and more. The entry fee for each six-person team is $30.00. We encourage you to invite non-church members and to make your group intergenerational. Registration forms, due August 23, are available around the church. Contact the church office if you need help forming your team. There will be prizes for the winners and losers. Drinks will be provided and snacks will be on sale, so bring some friends to cheer you on!

Homecoming Sunday
The time is quickly approaching to celebrate the renewal of our life together,as we begin another program year. On Homecoming Sunday, September 13, we will praise God with special music from the Maple City Dixieland Jazz Band; share in the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper; discover the vitality of our ministry; feast on hot dogs and hamburgers; and, welcome back many who have been "on holiday" for the summer. You are encouraged to attend this festival Sunday and invite a friend!
Worship is at 10:30 a.m. There will be a "Know Your Church Fair" in the social hall immediately following worship. The all-church picnic will be held in the social hall and a few tables will be on the church lawn of the southwest side of the building. Bring a dish or two to share and your own table service. Meat and drinks will be provided.
