Greetings!

Managing Your Service Charges

Protect yourself against unexpected costs by monitoring communications from the Bank. Whether you keep track of your account online or on paper, it's a good idea to promptly check account statements for errors that can cost you money, fees you didn't realize you were running up, account changes you forgot about, or unauthorized transactions you need to dispute.

Better yet, check your account activity online periodically instead of waiting for the statement to arrive in the mail. And consider signing up for electronic statements. That way, you'll get an email notifying you about your latest statement online, which can be a good reminder that it's time to review your account.

Paying attention to account activity is crucial if there are unauthorized transactions. In particular, if your debit or ATM card is lost or stolen, your liability for unauthorized charges is limited under federal law based on how quickly you report a problem. To get the most protection, you must notify the Bank within two business days of learning that the card is missing.

In addition to reviewing account statements, read any other mail or e-mail from the Bank. These communications may contain notices of important account changes.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact the Banking Center at 404-969-4400.

Texting Fraud Gaining Ground

Blue FingerprintThe FDIC reports that criminals masquerading as legitimate businesses or government agencies are tricking consumers into divulging valuable personal information over the computer, phone or fax in order to drain bank accounts. Here are the latest tips for protecting yourself against new schemes using electronic devices.
  • Think twice before responding to "urgent" text messages.
    • Your bank will NEVER send you an unsolicited text message.
  • Be on guard against unexpected pop-up windows on Web sites, including your bank's.
    • Your bank will NEVER ask you to type in your name and account number, this is why Username and Passwords are utilized and should only be entered when you are attempting to access a legitimate site.
  • Be suspicious of unsolicited offers to download games, programs and other "apps."
    • Those "deals" could contain malicious software directing you to fake Web sites or installing spyware on your computer used to steal information that can lead to theft of personal information stored on your electronic devices.

If you feel you are a victim of Fraud, please contact Midtown Bank immediately. You may also go to the FDIC Website for more information.
