Dear Friends in Christ!
|
Four of our 8th graders (see photo) are finishing their three years of confirmation studies, and will affirm their baptism at the 11:00 AM Service on Pentecost.
"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Please wear something red to church on this festive day!

Bearing Witness and Service |
Thanks to all disciples who brought their witness and service forms forward yesterday. 101 of us so far have signed up to bear witness and service this coming year through our ministry teams. All those have been recorded and are now posted on our website for our team leaders to start assembling their teams for 2012-2013.
You may verify that your selections were properly recorded by clicking on the direct link above or go to our plug-in page to download the Who Volunteered to do What spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is organized into tabs, one for each ministry team. If something was recorded incorrectly, please send an email to: Eric@ResurrectionPeople.org
If you would like to get a form to fill out, you can download it and print it off from our website. Just click on Witness and Service 2012, fill it out, and bring it with you to worship and put in the offering plate.

Memorial Day Flag Display
|
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Puton the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the
schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic
powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of
evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done
all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of
truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ...
Memorial Day originated in the post-Civil War era when families wanted to recognize the ultimate sacrifice that their soldiers had made for their country. Today, the need to recognize and remember our fallen service members is just as important. If you would like to purchase a flag ($2) in remembrance of a fallen service member, please contact Crystal or Nathan Neihoff by Wednesday 23 May at specks04@gmail.com or 540-785-8932. Flags will be on display during Memorial Day weekend and names will be listed in the narthex. Proceeds from the flag sales will be used to make a donation to the Wounded Warrior project on behalf of RLC.

ELCA Malaria Campaign |

ELCA Malaria Campaign:
Preventable. Treatable. Now.
Just one bite from an infected mosquito is all it takes for a person to contract malaria. What begins as flu-like symptoms can quickly lead to death. In fact, malaria is a leading cause of death in Africa. Almost 9 out of 10 of the 800,000 people who die from malaria each year live in Africa, and most (85 percent) are children under five years of age. The goal of the ELCA Malaria Campaign is ambitious--raising $15 million by 2015 to make malaria history. But with your help, it can be done.
Just $10 provides an insecticide-treated mosquito net; $50 provides medicine for 25 people; $100 can train a village health team. Please stop by the Malaria Campaign table this Sunday to make a contribution. For every $10 donation, a mosquito will be pinned to the wall. You might want to consider buying a net for each member of your family. Please make checks payable to Resurrection Lutheran Church, and write MALARIA on the memo line. You can also donate on-line through RLC by specifying "MALARIA" in the Other category.

"...Faith is God's work in us, that changes us and gives new birth from God (John 1:13)... Yes, it is a living, creative, active and powerful thing, this faith. Faith cannot help doing good works constantly. It doesn't stop to ask if good works ought to be done, but before anyone asks, it already has done them and continues to do them without ceasing."
