Lydia Crawford Kaufmann, 92, of Fredericksburg, died April 29,2012, at Heartfields. Born July 8, 1919, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Lydia Wolke Crawford and William Morrow Crawford. She married Arthur Kaufmann of Hartford, CT, June 21, 1941, sharing 56 years of marriage before his death in 1997. She was a very public-spirited person, working as volunteer head of a region of the American Girl Scouts before moving into full time work with that organization. She later worked as the Public Education director of the Hartford (CT) unit of the American Cancer Society, retiring from that organization in 1982. She was a faithful member of Resurrection Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Eugenia Roussillon and her brother William Crawford, who died in service in WWII. She is survived by her four children, Arthur and his wife Rebecca of Bristol, TN, Jean and her husband John of Anaheim, CA, William and his wife Cynthia of Hudson, WI, and Nancy Pouliot of Fredericksburg, and by 5 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd, at 3 PM at Resurrection Lutheran Church.
