Can You Help?

Fifth Saturday Meal for People in Need

Resurrection's Lasagna Laborers will meet in the kitchen of the Presbyterian Church once again on Saturday, March 31. You can help by:

  • Preparing the meal and serving it from 3:00 p.m. until about 6:15 p.m.
  • Providing some of the meal by signing up for items and then placing them in the box provided at church
  • Writing a check made out to Resurrection Lutheran Church,  labeling it "5th Saturday Homeless Meal," and dropping it into the offering plate . (We've applied for Thrivent funding, but it has not yet been approved and we expect a shortfall this month.)

If you can help to cook or serve, please contact Gail Taylor at gltaylor90@comcast.net or 786-5031.

Last time we hosted the Saturday Meal, we provided a total of 178 dinners and 50 lunches. The downturn in the economy has caused many people to suffer, but you can help to make one night a little better!

First Report on Estimate of Giving Cards

Thanks to all who completed their Estimate of Giving Cards last Sunday.  Here is the first report on what we have done as the Resurrection Family:

New Commitments were 18!  Of those who made commitments last year also, we had 22 who increased, 9 who decreased and 11 who remained the same.

We are still waiting to hear from 22 families who made commitments last year and give regularly, but were not at worship last Sunday.  We also hope to hear from 15 families who regularly give but have not made commitments in the past.  The amount of the commitments for 2012-2013 so far is $277,379.  We need an additional $82,283 in commitments to be even with the commitments for 2011-2012.

Please keep our whole Resurrection Family in prayer, asking God to inspire us to be generous and faithful as we seek to return our thanks and provide support for the mission and ministry of Christ's Church.

Confirmation Update

For all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade confirmands...

We're on our scheduled break for Holy Week, so there will be no confirmation classes on Palm Sunday nor on Easter Sunday.  We start up again on April 15th at 9:45 AM for our last "semester" before Pentecost on Sunday May 27th.

For 8th graders only...

On Pentecost, all four of our 8th graders will be affirming their baptism!  This is a very special and memorable time.  On Saturday May 26th, we'll all meet at noon in the RLC parking lot and drive to Madison VA for a picnic on the grounds of Hebron Lutheran Church.  We'll explore the grounds and at 2:00 PM we'll get a guided tour of the inside of the oldest continually operating Lutheran church in the United States.  The church was built in 1740.

After the tour, we'll drive back to RLC and go through a rehearsal of Sunday's affirmation.  Following the rehearsal, we'll have a catered rehearsal dinner at 5:30 PM in our Fellowship Hall.

luther"...Faith is God's work in us, that changes us and gives new birth from God (John 1:13)... Yes, it is a living, creative, active and powerful thing, this faith. Faith cannot help doing good works constantly. It doesn't stop to ask if good works ought to be done, but before anyone asks, it already has done them and continues to do them without ceasing."
