Dear Friends in Christ!
This week we begin our 40 day journey of repentance and preparation
in the time known as
Lent. The liturgical colors of this season will turn to purple this Wednesday the 22d of February -- Ash Wednesday -- and will continue until the Festival Service of the Resurrection on Sunday April 8th (Easter Sunday).  Imposition of Ashes will be offered at our 12:30 PM and 6:30 PM worship times on Wednesday.
Lenten Cross

Our Lenten Soup Suppers begin on February 22, and go every Wednesday through Lent from 5:30 to 6:30.  Karen Dickerson needs help setting up at 5:00 and cleaning up at 6:30.  We have a sign up sheet on the big green bulletin board if you could please sign up so we know about how many to expect and what they are going to bring. We'll also need soup and crackers or bread, as well as soup bowls and plastic spoons.  Please contact Karen if you'd like to help!

Please see our calendar on the News Page for the latest schedule in Lenten opportunities, and read on to learn more!

A Lenten Pilgrimage to Wellness

Is your life centered?   Are your priorities straight?  This month begins the season of Lent.  The season of Lent, historically, is a time to repent and to get one's life centered.  To help you with this mission, the Health Ministry Team is putting together another walking and wellness campaign and invites you to participate in the experience.

You are invited to live prayerfully through the Lenten season while increasing your physical activity.  By walking two miles a day during the 40 days of Lent, you will journey the distance of 80 miles which is equivalent to the distance between Jesus' hometown of Nazareth and Jerusalem.

The first day of the walking and wellness campaign (February 22nd) coincides with the first day of Lent or Ash Wednesday.  Since Ash Wednesday is a somber day of self-reflection, we are reminded on this day and throughout the season of Lent to focus on what needs to be changed in our lives to become fully Christian.  A calendar will be made available to help you with this process which includes daily Bible readings, prayer concerns, and activities.  We hope that you will join us!

luther"...Faith is God's work in us, that changes us and gives new birth from God (John 1:13)... Yes, it is a living, creative, active and powerful thing, this faith. Faith cannot help doing good works constantly. It doesn't stop to ask if good works ought to be done, but before anyone asks, it already has done them and continues to do them without ceasing."
