Father's Day Barbeque on June 18th

Howdy Resurrection Pardners!  Our annual Father's Day Barbecue is fast approaching so we wanted to get the notice out so you can mark it on your calendars. It will be held on Saturday, June 18 starting at 5:00 in the Church Fellowship Hall.  We will have great food, fellowship, and (by popular demand), entertainment by the Flat Run Ramblers. Registration for the event will begin on Sunday, May 29 in-between services. This is a fundraiser for the Health Ministry's October Health Fair and we want it to be a big success. So roundup your buddies and get ready for an evening of fun.

2011-2012 Witness and Service Forms

RLC x 3

On or before Pentecost (June 12th 2011) we ask all parishioners to complete a Witness and Service form indicating how you feel called to bear witness and service in the coming year (July 2011 through June 2012).

The forms will be published in the June Newsletter, and will be available in the Narthex for pick-up.  They'll also be included in the bulletin on June 5th.  You can download your own at home, fill it out, and bring it to church to put in the offering plate any Sunday.

NEW THIS YEAR!  You can fill out your response on-line if you like, and then see general results about how many folks have signed up for what ministries. Give it a try!

Congregational Meeting on June 19th

The semi-annual congregational meeting of Resurrection Lutheran Church is set for June 19th. The meeting will be held between services starting at 9:45am.

Because it is between services, there will be no Christian education that day and activities will be available for the children during the meeting.

The agenda is a busy one and will include a vote on the annual budget, electing new members to the Congregation Council, and votes on goals and objectives for the coming years, an expanded welcoming statement, and an addition to the constitution. Other subjects of importance will be included as time permits. This is an important event in our church calendar and your presence and vote will help determine our direction in 2011 and beyond.

Remember, the meeting is June 19, 2011 at 9:45am. Be there.

Vacation Bible School Coming 11-15 July

Vacation Bible School (July 11-15) plans are well underway under the leadership of Carol Bailey and Joy Bushman.  The town of Nazareth is the setting for this year's VBS.  The Bible storHometown Nazarethies for the week are based on Jesus' life and teachings.

A Simple Test from the RLC Mission Endowment Fund Board

Test your estate-planning knowledge. Are these statements true or false for you?

I would rather let the state decide how to distribute my estate than make those decisions myself. T/F

I would rather have an outdated estate plan that inadequately expresses my desires than endure the hassle of bringing my documents up to date. T/F

I would rather pay estate taxes, if required, than make gifts to ministries of the Church. T/F

How did you do? If you answered "True" to any of these questions, you need not read further. However, if you answered otherwise, please call the Mission Office for Planned Giving, planned giving services for Lutherans in the Virginia Synod, to learn how you might take better control of your estate plans, possibly avoid taxes, and help others through a gift that can bring you great joy. Toll free: 877-526-2448 or email: director@plan2giv.org.  Pastor George Sims, our Synod director, has been of great help in guiding our RLC Mission Endowment Fund Board through the learning process.  Ken Tillman is the chair of our Board and can be reached at kendee6@verizon.net or 540.972.3981. Stay tuned for more educational information.

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fullness and riches of his own faith."
