Pastor Chip Gunsten Preaches on March 6th!

Pastor Chip GunstenPastor Chip Gunsten, Assistant to Bishop Mauney, is our guest preacher on Sunday, March 6, at both services.  Let's make sure to have a wonderful crowd for our special guest.  We are interested in receiving Pastor Gunsten's thoughts on our new Purpose Statement and Guiding Principles.  How does our direction at Resurrection compare to his understanding of Jesus and Scripture?

Otto Pauls, Jr.

otto pauls jrWe extend our Christian sympathy to the family of Otto Pauls.  Mr. Pauls entered life eternal on February 22.  He is the father of Sharon Vines, grandfather of Maury Wrightson, Mason and Paul Vines, and great-grandfather of Duncan and Linus Wrightson.  Otto and wife Barbara often attended our Senior Program at Resurrection.

Please see the obituary notice for information on visitation, funeral and memorial gifts.

Update on Sam and Pam Sigler and the Fire

This past Sunday we heard about the house fire that damaged the home of Sam and Pam Sigler of our congregation.  Much of the damage came from the smoke and water that helped collapse part of the ceiling.  They are presently living with his mom in Arlington.  They are looking to rent a house in the Culpeper area where they work (any leads?).  The good news is that their insurance will help with rent and rental of furnishings.  Please continue to keep them in prayer and we will alert you in the near future to how we can help.  For cards and best wishes, you may write them at:  5488 Burr Hill Road, Rhoadsville, VA  22542.

New Adult Forum Series!

Mark Allen Powell on Biblical Stewardship:  Our Duty and DelightDr Mark Powell

Please join our Adult Forum for this excellent and inspirational 6-Week Presentation by one of the foremost theologians in the Church today.  This series begins this Sunday, February 27.  Dr. Powell is the Professor of New Testament at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.  In 2009 we enjoyed his lectures on How Lutherans Interpret the Bible.  Grab a cup of coffee and join us in the Fellowship Hall on Sundays at 9:45.

Lutherland Tour Group Presentation this Sunday, February 27th!

PC & Green Cow

Our 2010 Germany Tour Group wants to do a "show and tell" for all of us.  Please come to the Fellowship Hall this Sunday afternoon (February 27) at 4:00 PM.  We will have a 15-minute slide presentation and then we'll get to look at the tables of souvenirs and enjoy food from the dessert tables.  Please bring a dessert to share.  All ages are welcome.  For more information, you may see Pastor Jim.

We Are Looking for Lenten Drama Participants

Beginning on March 15, we will have the Lenten Drama The People Vs. Judas Iscariot on five Wednesday evenings.  This Sunday at church we will be asking for volunteers for the various parts of this "reader's theater" type presentation.  This is a trial, with judge and attorneys and witnesses.  The congregation serves as the jury.  Carol Bailey and Pastor Jim are the directors.

Fat Tuesday Pancake Dinner for All Ages

Please participate in the March 7 Fat Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday) Pancake Dinner in the Fellowship Hall!  The fun event (think Mardi Gras) is a fund-raiser by our Youth for the 2012 ELCA National Youth Gathering in New Orleans.  Come anytime during the event, but it would be helpful if you would indicate on the worship bulletin insert ("For the Record") if you will be at the First Seating (5:00 PM) or the Second Seating (6:00 PM).  For more information, you may speak with Terri Evers.

Lenten Soup Suppers

soupThere will be no soup supper on Ash Wednesday, March 9.  Our Lenten Soup Suppers begin on Wednesday, March 16.  Please bring your soup at 5:30 PM.  The meal is served from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.  Thanks to Karen Dickerson for coordinating our soup suppers.  See the signup sheet on the Big Green Bulletin Board in the narthex.

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fullness and riches of his own faith."
