Dear Friends in Christ,

Hope everyone had a happy "Low Altitude Marmot Day" on February 2nd!  Did you know there is a linkage between Groundhog Day and Candlemas or the Presentation of our Lord on Feb 2nd -- brought to America by German Lutherans?

Follow the links to read all about it!

4 February 1841 - from Morgantown, Berks County (Pennsylvania) storekeeper James Morris' diary ..."Last Tuesday, the 2nd, was Candlemas day, the day on which, according to the Germans, the Groundhog peeps out of his winter quarters and if he sees his shadow he pops back for another six weeks nap, but if the day be cloudy he remains out, as the weather is to be moderate."

Our local Chapter of Thrivent has published a Newsletter.  Thanks to Bob Martin for serving as an officer of this organization!

On January 29th (5th Saturday) the RLC Team of 18 people prepared and served over 200 meals for about 120 people in downtown Fredericksburg at The Presbyterian Church.  19 pans of lasagna, gallons of grean beans, and four pounds of spaghetti when we ran out of everything else!  Well done to all involved in this growing ministry!!!

Got Green Beans?
 feeding

The cupboards were almost bare when we left The Presbyterian Church Saturday evening, January 29th after serving 120 people a lasagna dinner. Ten adults and 8 youth from Resurrection Lutheran cooked and served the meal that was free to low income and homeless members of our community. We also were able to provide 46 bagged lunches, 52 meals in carry out boxes and 8 meals that were sent to the Micah Respite House.

When 19 large pans of lasagna ran out we made spaghetti for our guests. When our supply of pasta, sauce, and green beans was depleted we raided the Presbyterian Church's cupboards. If you would like to support this ministry, we would gladly accept donations of spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, and restaurant size cans of green beans which can be placed in a box in the narthex. Your gifts will restock The Presbyterian Church's cupboards. Thank you!

Primary funding for these meals is provided by Thrivent Financial. If you would like to become involved, please contact Gail Taylor at 786-5031. The next 5th Saturday meal will be held on April 30th.

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fullness and riches of his own faith."
