Dear Friends in Christ,
"I don't like people to send me something because they want to get rid of it. Giving is something different. It is sharing. ...This is something all of us need to learn. The chance to share our love with others is a gift from God. May it be for us as it was for Jesus. Let's love one another as He has loved us. Let's love one another with undivided love. Let's experience the joy of loving God and loving one another."

A Letter from Dan Kuckuck

Dear Resurrection,

It's been an exciting four months in Fairbanks, Alaska, and I can't believe that so much time has already passed! I'm a third of the way through my internship and July seems as though it's right around the corner-though with the temperatures hovering around -20 F, July being "right around the corner" might be no more than wishful thinking.Danhood

Since I'm writing now during the season of Advent, the difference between light and dark is amazing. Today the sun came up around 10:30 A.M. and sunset is scheduled for some time around 2:30. On the shortest day later this month, we'll be treated to (at most) about three hours of low sunshine during the day. One of the most incredible things about moving here for the year is seeing how radically different the pace of life can be, how radically different an understanding of light and dark can be. When we say "a light shines in the darkness," it really means something incredible! It means a hope for an end to full-spectrum lamps, vitamin-D supplements, fur-lined parkas, and a little bit of hibernation. While this time is enjoyed for what it is-a time for enjoying the wintertime on snow machines and skis and sleds pulled by dogs-there is an even greater anticipation of the Christmas season, where light starts returning to the cold places at the end of the map and the rhythms of the world continue as they always have.

Christ Lutheran Church has provided plenty of food (garden carrots and potatoes, and moose!), and plenty of warm clothes and company to make me feel at home. It is a joy to be part of a community here that is proud of who it is. I'll be back in Virginia this March and look forward to joining another congregation that is proud of its identity! Until then, though, I think of my church family and home often and keep you always in my prayers. If you find your pen hitting a page, I am always happy to receive a note here and there.

Many blessings!

Dansig

Congregational Meeting set for 30 January

The semi-annual congregational meeting of Resurrection Lutheran Church is set for January 30th. The meeting will be held between services starting at 9:45am.

Because it is between services, there will be no Christian education that day and activities will be available for the children during the meeting.

The specific agenda will be provided closer to the meeting date but there will budget discussion, votes for Synod Assembly delegates, votes on our new purpose statement and guiding principles, stewardship concerns, and other subjects of importance.  This is an important event in our church calendar and your presence and vote will help determine our direction in 2011 and beyond.

Remember, the meeting is January 30, 2011 at 9:45am. Be there.

Annual Reports Due

I just wanted to remind you that I will be putting together the Annual Report for the Congregational Meeting shortly. I will be looking for a report from each Team by January 5, 2011, so please give some thought to what you want to say in your report over the holidays. I know it is a very busy time of year but once New Year arrives, it will be a blink before the report needs to be put together.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

In Christ,
Terri

With the New Year, let all of us be grateful for the blessings that GOD has given us.  The little ones and the big ones!  Remember those that have less than we do and those that suffer more; thank The LORD for salvation and HIS Love!  Prepare a heart to see your talents utilized for the mission that is yours and heavy on your heart.  Remember the passages Malachi 3:10 and 2nd Corinthians 9:11.  May The LORD Bless and Keep each of you and shine HIS countenance upon you in the coming year!"

GOD Bless and Keep you,

Spike Roberts

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fullness and riches of his own faith."
