Albert Fred Riedl, Jr.

Al RiedlAlbert Fred Riedl, Jr, 94, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Buffalo, NY, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday September 22, 2010, at Mary Washington Hospital.

 

Mr. Riedl was born on September 19, 1916 in Milwaukee WI, a son of the late Albert Fred Riedl, Sr. and Katherine Weber Riedl. He was recently predeceased by his brother Richard John Riedl of Lake Lure, NC.

 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hazel S. Riedl, two sons; Albert Fred Riedl, III, and his wife, Marty; and William Carl Riedl and his wife Cynthia, of Fredericksburg and his daughter, Nancy Lucene Hutfless and her husband, Mike, of Springboro, OH. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Jennifer Eaton and her husband Matt, Laura Hutfless, Bill Riedl, David Riedl, Thomas Riedl and Elizabeth Riedl, also by two great granddaughters, Moriah and Aliyah Eaton.

 

He was a 1935 graduate of Amherst High School in Buffalo, NY, and attended the University of Buffalo where he majored in finance and engineering.  He was employed by the Liberty Bank of Buffalo, and then began his engineering career at Roberts-Gordan Appliance Corp. of Buffalo.  During WWII as an Army Tech Sergeant in Finance, he served in both the USA and Pacific Theaters.  After serving his country for 4 years (1941-1945), he was employed by American Standard Heat Exchanger Division in Buffalo.  In 1981, he retired after serving 30 years as a Service Engineer/Test Lab Manager.

 

He was active in community service, especially in the PTO and sports events in the  Maryvale School District.  He was an active member of Parkside Lutheran Church and St. Luke Lutheran Church, both in Buffalo, NY.  After moving to Fredericksburg in 1995, he was an active member at Resurrection Lutheran Church.

 

He was an avid Buffalo Bills football fan.  He enjoyed gardening and golf; also lively game times with his family.  After retirement, he and his wife Hazel trailer camped extensively in the US with their special group of friends from St. Luke Church in Buffalo.  They also enjoyed trips to Europe and Israel.  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. 

 

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 6170 Plank Road, Fredericksburg VA (22407).  Flowers may be sent to Laurel Hills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Fredericksburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Al Riedl to Resurrection Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
