Dear Friends in Christ,
luther"Faith is a living, bold trust in God's grace, so certain of God's favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it. Such confidence and knowledge of God's grace makes you happy, joyful and bold in your relationship to God and all creatures. The Holy Spirit makes this happen through faith. Because of it, you freely, willingly and joyfully do good to everyone, serve everyone, suffer all kinds of things, love and praise the God who has shown you such grace."

Off to Germany!

Please keep our tour family in your thoughts and prayers as we travel through Germany on September 15 to 25. Our group of 38 will travel by bus, visiting places important in the Lutheran Reformation. Our tour guide, Allan Hargreaves, is a retired school teacher from Minnesota. He speaks fluent German and this is about his 70th tour to Europe. He is an ELCA Lutheran and sounds a lot like Garrison Keillor from Lake Wobegon fame. Some of our highlights include: Wittenberg where Martin Luther lived and preached, The Wartburg Castle where Luther translated the Bible, a cruise on the Rhine River, overnight in the medieval city of Rothenberg, the world-renowned Passion Play at Oberammergau,  and Oktoberfest in Munich.

Lost & Found - The Virginia Synod ELCA weekend Event for 7th & 8th Graders November 19-21, 2010 at Eagle Eyrie Center in Lynchburg, VA.  About 600 youth and adults arrive at the event at about 7:00 PM and depart on Sunday about noon. We have Large Group gatherings - one on Friday night, three on Saturday, and one on Sunday morning.  Large Group means singing, energy, worship, and a presentation on our event theme - "Ambassadors for Christ."  After each Large Group session each person is in a Small Group of about ten youth and a couple of adult leaders where you get to know other Lutheran youth from around the state and talk together about your life and faith and things that you're interested in.  There's also a big chunk of Free Time on Saturday when we have our "Talent Show," and you can rest in your cottage or visit with all your new friends.  One of the best times is in your cottage on Friday and Saturday nights, when you can relax and talk with the other youth and adults from your congregation about how Lost and Found is going for you!

Altar parament for ordinary time

Eric Carlson
Resurrection Lutheran Church

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fullness and riches of his own faith."
