Dear Parents of Middle-School Youth,
This coming Sunday, September 12th, we start our confirmation program for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. We meet each Sunday between 9:45 and 10:45 AM. Our first two sessions will be in large group in the Sanctuary, after that we'll be in small groups throughout the year. Thanks to the following folks serving as faculty this year:
Kelli Slunt - 6th Grade - Teaching Old Testament with the 10 Commandments. Transitioning students from Sunday School to Confirmation.
Denise Guest - 7th Grade - Teaching the Gospels with the Lord's Prayer.
Spike Roberts - 8th Grade - Teaching the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles, and the Revelation to John with the Creeds.
The class roster and schedule, as well as the combined curriculum for your reference are posted to our resources webpage at:
http://www.resurrectionpeople.org/resources/index.php I'll send out updates to the curriculum as we progress through the year. We hope our program strengthens the biblical learning you've started at home, and that you will continue to lead and teach your children in the faith along with us these three years.
If your children do not yet have their own Bibles, now is the perfect time "to place in their hands the Holy Scriptures" as you promised at their Baptism. We recommend a Study Bible with helpful notes and maps in either the NIV or NRSV translations - or any translation that is most meaningful to your family. The Bibles they bring to confirmation each Sunday should be theirs to mark in with their own notes and highlights. Bible covers are recommended, but not required.
Below please find a letter from Terri Ann Evers who invites you to meet with her on Sunday to discuss how you can best help your children as they transition to adulthood in the church.
If you have any questions or concerns about the confirmation program, please let me know.
Grace, Mercy, Peace, and Love in Christ Jesus,

Eric@ResurrectionPeople.org Hello Parents of Middle School & High School Youth and Congregation members of Resurrection Lutheran Church,
Welcome to Resurrection's Rally Day on Sunday, September 12! I am excited to introduce myself to you with Pastor Carol in the Conference Room at 9:45 - 10:45 AM. As you may have read in the September newsletter, I am a Diaconal Minister Candidate in the area of Youth Ministry. The Pastors and the Church Council has graciously allowed me to do my 200 hour diaconal project at Resurrection Lutheran.
My passion is to help youth and adults identify their God given gifts and talents to give back to the church and the communities they belong to. I will introduce a "team lead" Youth Ministry Program. It all begins with a team of faithful adults mentoring to youth, who guide older youth to be peer-mentors to younger children. Youth are not the future of the church, they are part of the heart of our church today. My experience has been that they are just looking for a way to express their faith.
We will be talking about plans for fellowship and servant events for the youth to participate as well as introduce you to the wonderful Middle School and High School VA Synod events. We will also talk about the ELCA Youth Gathering in July 2012.
If you are a parent of a child in Middle School or High School, and/or like to work with youth, and/or feeling a tug on your heart to contribute your time and skills to the Youth Ministries at Resurrection, please plan to introduce yourself on Sunday.
Blessings and Peace,
Terri Ann Evers
