Boy Scout Troop 791 - One Year Anniversary
On the first anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 791, the troop would like to thank Resurrection Lutheran Church for chartering and supporting its activities. Boy Scouts is open to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award or have completed the fifth grade, or who are 11 through 17 years old. No experience is required. The boys meet each Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 pm - except in August - in the fellowship hall.
Here is an update on the troop's activities from Nicholas McGrath, Troop Scribe:
Our Boy Scout troop has definitely grown since August-September 2009. So many accomplishments have been made, including rank advancements, new scouts joining, merit badges, and even awards. The surprising thing about that is that we only started a year ago.
Now, I didn't start with the troop in August; instead, I had joined the following month in September. I didn't know much about scouts since I never was a cub scout. But my brothers were Boy Scouts when they were young (For a very short amount of time), and thanks to the other members of the troop, I understood what I needed to know for scouts. Our troop started very small: only seven scouts, compared to other troops. We grew bigger through the months, though, and currently have 12 scouts, soon to be 13. And all 12 of us have done something in the troop that was appreciated by others; Ranks advancements including Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, and Life; Merit Badges include Swimming, Aviation, and Family Life; and Scout Skill Achievements Totin' Chip, Firem'n Chit. But it doesn't stop there, because of summer camp, all of us are getting more merit badges, including Mammal Study, Lifesaving, and Cinematography Merit Badges.
Since the start of the troop, we've been to dozens of activities, like camping at Lake Anna (Twice), Westmoreland, and summer camp. We've done a lot of camp-outs, but we've done more activities that don't involve camping. For a short example, we've been to the YMCA for swimming merit badge, we've gone to a demolition derby, we've gone to the Air and Space Museum, and we've gone to 2 camporees, one for Aviation Merit Badge, and one for the 100 Anniversary of Scouting at Goshen; We've gone to the Homeless shelter to serve breakfast, we've been on orienteering courses twice, and we helped out with other activities at church like refinishing the picnic tables. It doesn't stop there for our troop, though we've accomplished so much in our first year together, and we will hopefully accomplish much more in our second year. We will do as many activities, including campouts and trips, as possible. We will try our best to reach our next rank and beyond, and we will grow much larger because, well, who wouldn't want to join our troop?
