BLIZZARD ALERT ... Update ... All Activities Cancelled on Sunday 7 Feb |
All activities at Resurrection are cancelled on Sunday, February 7. We encourage volunteers to shovel the sidewalks on Monday (after the snow plow has come through). Don't forget to mail offerings or make electronic fund transfers. Here are some ways we can honor the Lord on this Sabbath, February 7. We hope that the head of the household, especially where children are present, will take seriously God's call to be the priest on this day: * Read the appointed lessons for the day - Isaiah 6:1-13; I Corinthians 15:1-11; and Luke 5:1-11 The fifth Sunday after Epiphany continues to highlight unlikely instruments and circumstances appointed to reveal the glory of the Lord. "Who will go for us?" asks the Lord. A man of unclean lips, a former persecutor of the church of God, and three fishermen who couldn't catch a thing. More surprising still, perhaps, is the fact that we are also called. * Use the Morning Blessing from Luther's Small Catechism: In the morning, as soon as you get out of bed, you are to make the sign of the holy cross and say: "God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit watch over me. Amen. Then, kneeling or standing, say the Apostles' Creed and the Lord's Prayer. If you wish, you may in addition recite this little prayer as well:
"I give thanks to you, heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ your dear Son, that you have protected me through the night from all harm and danger. I ask that you would also protect me today from sin and all evil, so that my life and actions may please you. Into your hands I commend myself; my body, my soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel be with me, so that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen." After singing a hymn perhaps (for example, one on the Ten Commandments) or whatever else may serve your devotion, you are to go to your work joyfully. Wednesday Worship at 12:30 p.m. You are invited to worship at Resurrection this Wednesday for our regular thirty-minute worship with devotion, Holy Communion, and prayer. Next Sunday: We will have a renewal of marriage vows at both the 8:15 and 11:15 services. We invite all couples to bring a wedding picture (or other of you two) for the narthex display table. We will have wedding cake at the reception after worship. Sunday, February 21: We will baptize infant Kellen Cheeseman at 11:15 and also dedicate the new Baptismal Table. The rescheduled Congregation Meeting takes place at 1:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Annual Reports are being placed in church mail folders by February 14.

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fullness and riches of his own faith."
