Oct 3 - Evening Lecture Series on Financial Planning starts October 3rd |
Starting this Saturday, October 3rd, we are planning a series of Financial Planning seminars held every-other-month in our Fellowship Hall. We will have a variety of guest presenters who will provide sessions on topics of personal financial planning interest.
For October, our own Tom Murphy will present three different sessions starting at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Light snacks and coffee will be provided at no cost to the participants.
- October 3 - Financial Planning Overview for all ages with special emphasis on credit
- October 10 - All about mortgages for new home buyers
- October 17 - All about reverse mortgages for seniors
Please RSVP for the October 3rd session by e-mail to Eric@resurrectionpeople.org or call (540) 658-9454 soon so we know how much food to get!
The first session this Saturday will have special emphasis on the nature of credit -- with insight into how your individual credit profile is established, how lending institutions evaluate your credit history, and the impact of credit on your financial health. This should be a most interesting topic for all. Even if you think yourself well-informed on these things, you might pick up some tips to pass along to your grandchildren. We especially encourage younger adults to participate and get the inside scoop on establishing good credit.
Free food! Come on out to learn and enjoy! Lectures can be fun!

Oct 4 - Blessing of the Animals |
On Sunday, October 4th, we are going to do something that we have never done before. Both worship services on that day will focus on Saint Francis and the relationship that we share with all of God's good creation, especially the animals. In lieu of bringing your actual pets, we are asking that all animal lovers bring a photograph of your pet (or pets) to worship with you on this date. The entire service, including the sermon, will be focusing on this particular topic of the day. Kids are invited to bring a stuffed animal with them to worship as well...for a very special message just for them.

Oct 4 - What is the Word of God? |
The topic for our Adult Forum this Sunday is "What is the Word of God?" Our presenter on DVD is Dr. Mark Allen Powell from Trinity Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Powell's presentation is most helpful in understanding what our ELCA seminaries teach about such things as: Is the Bible inerrant? Do we read the Bible literally? What does the ELCA Constitution say about how we view scripture? Is there a difference between how Lutherans understand scripture and how other Christians understand scripture? The presentation takes about 20 minutes and will be followed by about 40 minutes of discussion. We meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45. Please gather in the narthex until our children's Sunday School opening is completed. Pastors Jim and Carol are the facilitators for this Sunday's forum.

Oct 7 - Afrizo Concert |
The Afrizo Concert is this Wednesday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. in our sanctuary. These students from Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya, are enthusiastic and excellent. They have already raised $150,000 on this concert tour for college scholarships. We expect to have many folks from the community join us. It would be great to have lots of folks from Resurrection to show our support and welcome. If you can't join us for the evening concert, you have the opportunity to hear Afrizo sing at our regular 12:30 noon service on October 7.
