Dear Friends in Christ,
"...when you and I do not name the fears we hold, then too often our fears end up holding us captive. We then become our fears, and fear -- not faith -- becomes our witness.

..breathe, breathe, breathe. For when anxiety takes over, we often forget to breathe deeply in the Spirit, as if the wind has been knocked out of us, and our witness is diminished.

May this be our witness throughout this week: We have gathered in the strong name of Jesus to breathe in the Holy Spirit deeply, for the Spirit was poured out in baptism upon each one of us -- upon each one of us."

20 Year Anniversary Celebration

logoOur congregation is 20 years old this year!  We will be celebrating this anniversary with one big worship service on September 13th at 10:00 am -- the only worship service that Sunday.  After worship, we'll share a meal of ham and turkey together.  Volunteers are needed to help with tasks before the event, during the dinner, and afterwards.  YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!  Please see Donna Roberts or Debbie Carlson to see how you can help!  A special feature will be the first annual DESSERT COMPETITION for the men of the church...participate and show off YOUR culinary talents (not your wife's or the bakery's)!!! See Spike Roberts for details.

Shishmaref, Alaska Collection

shishmaref lutheran churchAgain this year we will send our surplus to the Inupiats in Shishmaref, a people living on subsistence, who are badly affected by Global Warming. About 600 people live on this island, 580 being Lutherans because a Lutheran Missionary introduced them to Jesus in the 1890's.   There is running water in a community bathhouse, and in the parsonage.  They live on what they catch, and preserve.  This year we will also send Sunday School materials, a full teaching pack, that they will be able to multiply for themselves.  Also craft items left over from VBS.    Beginning the first Sunday in September and finalizing the end of October, there will be a designated large box for collection.   Again THRIVENT will be helping us with the shipping costs, which last year came to about $700. There is a photo book near the display showing life in Shishmaref for your viewing during this time.

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fulness and riches of his own faith."
