Dear Friends in Christ,
"When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light.  Give thanks for your life and strength.  Give thanks for your food and give thanks for the joy in living.  And if perchance you see no reason for giving thanks, rest assured the fault is in yourself."

Bishop Mauney's Pastoral Letter

A proposed social statement on Human Sexuality comes to the 2009 Churchwide Assembly in August. Our own Virginia Bishop Jim Mauney has crafted a pastoral letter to us all regarding Recommendation One of the Task Force's Report and Recommendations.  Read the Introduction first and then follow the included link to the Pastoral Letter

Adopt a Garden

hammer crossBeginning July a list landscape tasks will be posted on the church's Narthex bulletin board to ask for volunteers to help maintain or adopt a designated area of our church property.  Some examples would be the parking lot islands, exterior plants, picnic tables, signs, lighting, weeding (weed whacking), drainage pond maintenance and sidewalks.  Please take a look at the opportunities for volunteering your skilled labor.

Stewardship Metrics

For purposes of measuring our progress in being good stewards, we've determined a number of metrics which we'll share in our monthly newsletter.  Our first metric is the "Giving Unit".

We define a "giving unit" as a confirmed and communing member of our congregation - or a married couple of confirmed and communing members.

As of 01 July 2009 we have 215 Giving Units in our Congregation.

Of those, 120 (about 56%) contributed financially to the life of our congregation by giving to the Mission and Ministry Fund.

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fulness and riches of his own faith."
